Well it didn't take Kevin Rudd long to make his first official move as Australia's new Prime Minister, only a few hours after being officially sworn in as Prime Minister he's ratified the Kyoto protocol as his first big move.
I've questioned the appropriateness of Kyoto recently as without the major polluters such as China, and the USA involved it's fairly meaningless and it might also harm industry.
I look as it as a positive thing, for all it's industry ramifications it's going to drive growth in more environmentally friendly activities and is an important symbolic gesture towards being serious about climate change.

Re: Australia ratifies the Kyoto protocol
I'm sorry for your country.
[edit] To expand. I recently saw a article from bloomberg about several of the big countries signed up with kyoto, fail to meet their standards resulting in a huge amount of money being shuffled around.
