Credit Cards?

Post by bizzle »

Anyone have a Citi Mastercard? If so, how is their customer service? Do they speak english?

I've had enough of HSBC fucking me around and it's time to dump them.

I just signed up with citibank and am not enjoying their service. For one thing I signed up for their EasyChecking account (or something along those lines). It is aimed at people trying to move away from paper and into electronic accounting. You are actually charged a fee if you don't sign up for Direct Deposit from your job within the first year, which doesn't bother me. They claim you can pay virtually any bill online. What's the first thing that happens? They bill me $20 for 400 checks! 400!

It was also a huge hassle setting up the account because I don't have an in-state ID. The bank actually wouldn't accept a letter mailed FROM Citibank TO my new home in San Diego as proof of address. Any other letter mailed to my home was fine, but they wouldn't accept one from their own bank so I had to make a second trip. This was not mentioned to me when the teller said a letter mailed to my home would suffice.

Also they have a rewards program. For every dollar you spend on your master card you earn "thank you points" which can be traded in for prizes. Sure you got to spend a few thousand dollars to earn enough points for a copy of Halo 3, but the points don't seem to be registering with my thank you network account.

Overall I'm pretty disappointed with Citibank at the moment and lots of people are trying to convince me to move to Washington Mutual.

I use Bank of America and they seem to be pretty good. They don't hit you with a late fee if your 1 day late on payment, and they speak English assuming you need to contact them. They also have a rewards program which is kinda nice.

I'm happy with my chase card. Never had any issues with it, or the CS for that matter. interest was kind of high, but i also had a "starter" card.

I actually already have a Chase Visa as well. They've increased my limit twice but refuse to lower my interest rate at all (23.9% IIRC) and I've never had a late payment. I have good credit as well. Other than that, I like Chase. They process my payments nearly instantly while HSBC takes over a week.

What I've been doing the past few months was making purchases on my Chase card and transferring the balance to my HSBC card because it has 0% interest on balance transfers for the first year, though now they give me the shaft and say "You can only do that for the first 65 days." -- so now I'm stuck with several hundred dollars on a high interest card that I wasn't expecting.

Hey! I have Citibank- twice! My old cc accounts from back in 2001 were discontinued so Citi bought them out. Not bad- everyone speaks English and is nice enough. Never had harrassing calls, but them I'm not one to be late on paying my bills. So, no complaints from me there, aside from a 30% APR they tried to pull off. Totally gauging, caught them on it, now at 18% APR.

I agree, though, Chase holds my school loans and they are fantastic to deal with. Never had the difficulty with the APR going up... but then, school loans are sorta' long term.

DO NOT GO CAPITAL ONE. They are scum and extremely difficult to deal with. I canceled that card within three months. I kept re-opened a card with higher interest just to NOT deal with them.

I actually just got a Capital One. They offered me a Platinum Visa with 0% APR on purchases until November 2008 and 12.9% after that, so I took it. If I don't like it, I'll cancel.

Maybe you're already aware of this, but do yourself a favor and read the fine print. With advertised rates like that there's virtually guaranteed to be some kind of screw-over clause (e.g. if you have a late payment ever your rate goes to 30%).

I always pay my bills on time. And yes, I know you lose promotional rates with late payments and over limits. I'm responsible with my bills so I don't think it'll be an issue.

ive had capital one since like june..my 0% expires in december i got payment protection its like really really cheap and it makes sure my promotional rate wont go away no matter what really..i accidently charged 1$ over my limit (a server tip i didnt take into account)

i have about 400$ left to pay off but its no biggie really

and i have never had a single harrassing phone call or bad customer service i guess because ive never really talked to their customer service though..

i dont think you would have a problem with any cc as long as youre responsible and pay your bills on time..

not paying youre cc on time is what really ruins youre credit

anyways im rambling because im all coked up so ill stop but hopefully you have learned something!

I'm pleased to say i don't have any credit cards anymore. I had two and got into big trouble with them. now i learned my lesson, and realized that i have no real reason for a credit card right now. maybe when i get out of college i'll get one, but for now, i'm just glad i don't have to worry about the debt i was falling into.

It's called self control.

I have four now and I pay them on time and off as fast as possible.

yep it is. I found out my self control is poor, as is my current financial status, so a credit card for me is just an all around bad idea.

Why is it that everybody can get a credit card besides me?

I am 25 and am trying to apply for my first credit card, I had so so much trouble getting approved and now it's taking forever for my card to actually arrive!

The reason for the card was to cover a debt, then my intention was to arrange a personal loan from a bank and pay out the credit debt. It turns out that now I've gotten the loan before I actually got the card.

Yay Virgin Credit, thanks for the really fast service.

Now that I have my loan organised I am strongly considering cutting up the card as soon as it arrives. I have my Visa debit card which uses money that I actually have, I'd rather spend my own money than a credit companies money.

Good thing I have all these cards. I totaled my truck last night and have to get another car, so time to start pulling some cash advances.

Not smart. Financing from a bank has much lower interest.

No shit. I can't get approved, which is ridiculous because I have good credit and a decent paying job.
