Computer isn't responding..

Post by Mattiethomas » Sat Sep 01, 2007 4:49 pm

Alright, so at first, my computer started randomly restarting on me, and it kept getting worse until one day while I was using it, it shut off and gave a CPU error and wouldn't boot up. A few times after I tried booting it up again, it wouldn't even respond (Monitor light stayed orange instead of green). And it wouldn't stop that. I had an extra computer so I tested the parts. RAM was okay, Video card was okay, I tested the CPU also and it worked on my other computer. I tested pretty much everything in the computer. So I Finished testing everything, and it all worked. I hadn't tested the motherboard so I assumed it was the problem. So I ordered a new one, got it today and installed it; Same problem. No different. I'm not sure what else it could be; I've tested everything..

Any ideas? Anyone had this problem before?

I think I would have replaced the power supply before replacing the motherboard.

I suspect the power supply too.

Have you added any new parts recently?

I had a similar problem but it turned out to be a new hard drive that was set to sata-300 mode when it should have been set to sata-150 to match the controller.

You burned out your PSU (Power Supply Unit); too many fans, and/or a graphics card probably is what killed it. Get a 650-Watt PSU by Antec they run about $150 USD and you should be okay... depends on what your system specs are.
