Looks like a pretty awesome little phone. I'm not a big fan of the shape/size, but for messaging it looks awesome. Probably would be the phone I'd go with if I didn't work for Apple.

Re: Helio Ocean
It looks like a neat device, but I'm still very wary of cell phones. Plus, I'd imagine the battery life isn't too impressive with all those features crammed in there.
Three things I'd be concerned about are the longevity of the device, the quality of the web browser, and interface/media player. Those things are always touchy subjects when it comes to do-it-all cell phones, which is a shame given the exhorbitant price. That's why I've stuck with my Zodiac for media and PDA functions; PalmOS is established and syncs well with Macs, there's really good media software that doesn't require ridiculous conversions, and the Zodiac is built like a tank.
Of course, it's not a phone. But phones don't seem to be too good at the non-phone things they do, anyway.

World's best-selling cell phone: Nokia 1100.
Cheap, tough, long battery life. It makes calls. No frills. That's what phones are meant to be.

Re: Helio Ocean
If you view everything other than "it makes calls" as just "frills" then it's pretty clear you're out of the loop. A few years ago I would have agreed with you, a lot of the new features back then seemed very experimental. Recently they've all improved dramatically though, and I doubt I could go back to a phone that lacks additional features.Stormwatch wrote:World's best-selling cell phone: Nokia 1100.

Re: Helio Ocean
Actually, I'm with Stormwatch on this one. I have a SLVR, yet I think the only thing I use that phone for other than making the occasional call is playing games. I don't text at all. I don't even have voice mail set up.BoneyCork wrote:If you view everything other than "it makes calls" as just "frills" then it's pretty clear you're out of the loop. I must admit, though, the ability to get online with a phone (like the iPhone) certainly intrigues me. I think internet use would be more useful to me than any other extra feature. But I really don't want to pay the extra for internet use, so I doubt a cell phone will ever be more to me than just a phone.

Re: Helio Ocean
I do my fair share of text messaging. It's nice for non-urgent stuff, and works well with Facebook and Google.

Yeah, smartphones have matured significantly since my last one in 2004!
edit:
Pfft, it's still got an LCD display, a flashlight and games. Useless bloat, Motorola F3's where it's at:Stormwatch wrote:World's best-selling cell phone: Nokia 1100.

I love my ocean... if anyone ever thinks about switching over to helio let me know.. (lame promotion) I'll hook you up with a link for 50 percent off the device, 10 bucks off per month for the 1st year, and one month free..
as for battery life i get about 2 to 3 days out of it.. which isnt so bad.. the keypad has me texting life a fiend.. i used to be very light on texts but now with unlimited texts and data i type like a fiend.. aim works great on it... the browser is ok.. but they actually just got opera mini to run on it so that is pretty sick. the games are nice and i just got my 2 gig sd mini for it for mp3s. but its got a lot of sweet features like 1 click uploads for youtube videos (i've posted 3 from my phone so far) and 1 click upload to flickr... i deff plan on using these features like crazy when i go to vegas in a few weeks... ok that was a lot of typing.. for all of you still reading this... i thank you
