IE causing problems for me in firefox

Post by JuddWack »

Don't know why but recently ie has been in my task manager at boot up but I used EasyCleaner to check my boot up programs and it isn't listed. The problem is that I randomly, but always frequently here a clicking noise and it sends firefox to the background. If I'm typing it is incredibly annoying. When I click End Process it will resurrect itself in about 30 seconds. What is going on?

I'd do a spyware check. Perhaps some nasty program is using the IE active X control to do things.

Opera is an EXCELLENT browser, but I find it too limited.
Even with the fancy stuff turned off it's still too fancy for it's own good.

It has the best CSS, and SVG support of all the browsers though, and the Pocket PC version kicks total arse.

Been using Opera on and off, mainly as a secondary browser and not primary, for the last... 8-9 years or so.

Well searching for spyware worked. Easy enough.

This problem keeps coming back and it looks like it has to do with the iexplore.exe process. Seem like a virus. I haven't found a source on the internet yet I believe I can trust for help. Then again I just had a 16 hour flight and haven't slept in about a day and a half so I can't think properly. Has anyone had problems with this?

I'd go ahead and reinstall Windows if I couldn't get rid of a piece of spyware.

Sounds like BHO (browser helper object) malware. This stuff uses an Internet Explorer programming interface intended for toolbars, download managers, and other software that "needs" to integrate with the browser. It's not terribly hard to get rid of the BHO itself, but butters has the right idea; there's no telling where else it may have hooked itself into your system.

Yeah it might be time for a clean sweep. Some other people recomended that. I just wish I knew where it came from so I'm sure it doesn't happen again.

hey judd... what are you using to clean out your spyware?

i'd use AVG Anti-spyware:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5

HijackThis! is also useful if you know your stuff.

anyway i wanted to post in the first place about opera!
make the interface more like firefox with this handy opera toolbar setup:
http://my.opera.com/Rijk/blog/2007/02/0 ... -new-munin

it's my primary browser, and after that it is *gasp* IE7 with the IE7Pro add-in.

I've been very cautious of my browsing these days and it seems to have stopped. I cleaned it out with spybot and rebooted. Seems ok, been a few days since it caused any problems.
