Keeping Cats Out!

Post by S. Thompson »

Not sure if I'm entirely off base here or not, but isn't there some kind of spray or something that repels cats from certain areas... like something scent-based...

I'm really just concerned about my desk cos my kitten keeps going behind and accidentally shutting off the power strip my computer is on...

I think cats stay away from mothballs but I'm not entirely sure.
It's thinking...

LOL I work in a landscape store so ive picked up on a few things. Though most the stuff I know is for outside. If you want to buy a product there is stuff called like "cat/dog away". But that stuff really i think is supposed to be used outside. The main chemical in that is the same stuff thats in mothballs, so as darc said thats a good thing to use. you can also use broken eggshells, but I doubt you would want that around your desk. Cats hate they way that feels on their paws.

Close the door to what? He wants his house cat to not get under his desk.

I think he thinks that everyone keeps their computers in separate rooms of their homes or at least in their bedrooms. I'm guessing that since he posted about it and that shutting doors is the simplest option, that shutting the door is simply not an option in this case.

Every time the cat does it, stuff him in the computer case and say " NO, BAD KITTY! ".

I think ammonia also keeps cats off of things, and I've heard that hot sauce does as well. Of course, both of those have rather strong odors, so they may keep you away as well.

Spray the cat with water whenever it gets near it, so eventually it will not want to go near that area anymore.

My computer is downstairs in my living room (I live in a duplex) - I could lock the cat in my bed room upstairs, my guitar room upstairs, or outside... I enjoy having her nap on my lap whilst I type though.

I tried that to keep my cat from trying to eat my pet mouse; the cat didn't care in the least.

S. Thompson: I've noticed since we got our dog, the cat avoids places the dog goes like the plague, you might get some dog scent and "mark" where you don't want the cat to go. (Yes, I know that's disgusting.)

It worked for our cat, see won't go near the nice furniture, counter tops, or dinning room table.

It most likely wants to play with you. Keep a bag of the little balls with a bell in them near the desk when the cat comes in throw one away from the desk.

I wonder if I rub lemon juice on the carpet around the desk if it will do anything...
