Casino Royale
I saw it last night and was totally blown away. Daniel Craig is so kickass in how he portrays Bond. It's a absolute 180 from the Brosnan years, but I was ready for it. The opening sequences before and after the credits are amazing. Everything is amazing, from the action, plotline to Eva Green. You must see this movie.

Really? Just by the previews I don't think the new guy would make that great of a Bond. Brosnan was the best imo. Connery was good, but Brosnan was perfect.

Maybe I'll see it then. I didn't really care for the Brosnan movies.pixel wrote:Yes! If you hated everything about the Brosnan era, this is totally different. If you loved Connery, Craig is in the same vein.Juan wrote:The only Bond movies I ever saw were the Pierce Brosnan ones, and I thought they were awful. Should I bother with this one?
I'd describe Craig's Bond as a cross between early Connery (Dr. No and From Russia With Love) and the book James Bond. His occasional style and manner of speaking are a bit of both.
This is also probably the closest a Bond film has ever been to the book, for better or for worse (better in this case).
The film is excellent almost across the board. Also, if you like free running/Parkour stuff like in Banlieu 13, the opening action sequence has some quite good examples of it.
Which reminds me of another thing I liked about this film... ALL the villains are pretty badass, even some minor ones. The scarred bomber in the beginning actually is more badass than Bond in some ways. The dude Bond fights in the truck does really well against Bond as well. Even the wimpy (physically) lead villain tricks Bond on more than one occasion.
As a whole, this is amongst the best Bond flicks ever, right up there with From Russia With Love and Goldfinger.

Casino Royale is the Batman Begins of James Bond. No longer does Bond rely completely on an array of increasingly unlikely gadgets and weaponry. Daniel Craig, as James Bond gets his hands dirty in this movie - and I mean really dirty at times. His portrayal of Bond is practically flawless. Although overly cocky and uncaring in the beginning of Casino Royale, he quickly adapts to his role as a 00 agent, performing the best portrayal of Bond since the 1960s.
Casino Royale owes much of it's style to shows like 24, movies like The Bourne Identity, and games like Splinter Cell. Instead of being just a suave smooth talker, Craig is not afraid to get physical with his adversaries. Instead of dispatching them with some obscene piece of technology or just shooting them, Craig seems more content to beat the living pulp out of them.
I don't think they could have cast a better Bond for this movie. While Brosnan played a good James Bond, I'm glad they went with Craig in the end... Brosnan is a nancy compared to Craig, who by the end of Casino Royale has been strapped to a bomb, ran vertically up at least 20 stories of girders (and jumped down an from this height), been poisoned, died once, been mercilessly tortured (in a realisitic fashion for once), and had numerous scars -and on his pretty-boy face no less.
Not to mention Craig is easily the most fit of any actor portraying Bond yet. Muscular and handsome, he certainly suits the Bond role, with the exception of his sandy blond hair, you'll actually believe he is James Bond. Of note, his eyes are blue, just like the original Ian Fleming James Bond.
If you like James Bond, you should go see this movie. If you don't like James Bond you should go see this movie. If you're blind, deaf and mute, you should go see this movie.
