AVG free

AntiVir Personal Edition

Avast

All of the above have free versions, and have been spoken highly of in the past. Just wondering which ones are used most, and what people think of them.

I use Avast on my own computers and also put it on all the computers that people ask me to work on. It works great for me and I haven't heard complaints from anyone else.

I use AVG Professional which is the exact same as AVG free except with a commercial licence, it's never missed a beat. The only thing that annoys me is that damn auto update that pops up every time it does an update, I'd rather it just silently update.

I've also installed AVG Free on any computers that I build and on some systems belonging to people I know, and I've never had a complaint.

I told my roommate to install AVG Free on his computer, and I haven't heard any complaints from him about it. (He had Norton AntiVirus which came with his computer, but expired, previously)

Norton is such a resource hog, in it's current state I wouldn't touch it.

I've been using AVG for a while now also. Can't say anything about the other apps, as I've not used them, so my pick is AVG.

I put AVG on my Grandma's computer. It's set up to automatically update without her knowing. I haven't heard anything bad yet.

Me too. Both are great, but I find that it takes Avast longer to scan.

AVG. i've been using AVG Pro recently because i can exclude directories from real-time protection. makes programs load faster that way. the free edition doesn't have that feature.

I've used AVG free for a long time, and it seems to work fine. As JellyWarrier said, the auto-update thing is a bit annoying, but not all the time.
