I hit a dog

Post by toastman »

Coming back from Lafayette last night driving along the highway near 11pm. A dog walks out into the middle of the road.

I brake.

I swerve to the side a little (towards the shoulder, the dog was coming from the left side of the road).

I wind up clocking him in the freaking head.

I get to a gas station to check the damage. I can hardly open the driver side door. The front left fender is bent up, the headlight is gone, there's a buckle in the hood, and minor damage to the front grill.

It sucked.
Also the first time I have ever hit a living creature with my vehicle.

Why do you tell such outrageous stories? I'm so sure you hit a deer on a nearly daily basis

I hit deer all the time when I am at work. Not much you can do on a train though.

I hit a cat once when I had a my dodge daytona (loved that car). Not because I hit a cat, it was just a good looking car. I never did see the cat though. I was going out a country road and all I saw was its shadow then thump. It didn't do any damage to my car though.

Its possible ace. When I drive my le baron its like a catholic school uniform magnet. I end up smashing into at least one group of secong graders a day. Have you ever had to scrape second grader out of your grill? Its horrible.

You do know it's up to the owner of the dog to fix your car? I believe something in homeowners or renters insurance will cover it.

You kill their pet so the owners have to pay for the damage to your car? That must suck for whoever owned that dog.

The owner of the dog should be responsible for making sure his pet doesnt run around in the streets/roads. Not only is the owners negligence dangerous to the dog (obviously) but to the drivers using the roads who are at serious risk of getting into an accident when the driver tries too avoid hitting the animal.

I understand that part but still.

*knocks on door*

"Hello?"

"Yes, I ran over your pet the other day"

"Oh dear god..."

"Yeah, and I want you to pay for the damage it did to my car"

I don't know, it just seems like a lot to ask for, especially if they were really attached to their pet. Anyways, I'll stop now because I'm probably not making Toastman feel too good about himself (at least you tried man, at least you tried :( )

Id imagine id think him a...ooooh I dont know a dick maybe. All joking aside they're wasnt much toastman could do.
