Opera is quite a bit faster without extensions. It can manage multiple connection threads better, access its own cache quickly, and even make logical guesses as to the appearance of a page and rendering it until it's fully loaded. On a 21Kbps connection, these improvements are clear as day. And there isn't a several second lag pressing the back button.nakamichi wrote:Firefox page loading slow? Hahaha, you must be kidding.
Try the "Tweak Network Settings" extension and set it to POWER.
Then you'll see the real speed of Firefox.
And you can't compare a browser after plugins/customizations to one straight out of the box. Straight out of the box Opera has many of the features you mentioned you can get with plugins.

It doesn't show clearly but there were four red lines (ok ok 3 red lines and one dot) showing the start and end of page rendering. The first spike is opera and the second is firefox. I've edited the image to show this.nakamichi wrote:? The CPU loads... they almost match?
(or the red line shows VERY LITTLE CPU usage?)
Which one is from Opera? the red or the green diagram?
hmmm...seems like they use very similar rendering engine and optimizations
...or one of the browsers uses a lot less resources?
Firefox expends much more effort to render a complex page than opera does, to the point of using almost all CPU cycles for a second or two.

I noticed that in Firefox.
Firefox stresses the CPU badly for about 1 to 1.5 seconds when loading pages with JAVASCRIPT-based content.
Just open that forbidden *EDIT* page which uses loads of Javascript, show those news from the previous day and you'll see what I mean :)
Really stressing the CPU over 90% on a AMD XP2200+ machine

Agreed Opera really needs something like Adblock, its really cool for blocking single images like when some smartass decides to put a 300KB avatar or for blocking flash ads.
Overal they both have their qualities, if Firefox had mouse gestures and "Past and go" from the start it would be a tough choice.

It's marked which is which. Opera uses less cpu for less time. It's a better bang for your non buck.nakamichi wrote:? The CPU loads... they almost match?

Well,Opera doesn't display well those pages I visit often.(some French emu sites) and it just repeats pages again as a new frame inside the same window, instead of linking me to the download section :(
Also,I noticed that Opera's download manager also sucks,as the one in Firefox.
When you resume the download,it starts from the beginning! :(
(but the d/l manager in Opera is a bit more reliable than the one in Firefox. The FireFox d/l manager can screw up your download in the middle by downloading it incompletely and saying it's fully downloaded....ugh!
There's nothing better than a good reliable download manager for this.
So,I'm still using GetRight :)

that doesnt happen all the time. especially not if you do the proper thing like you are supposed to and pause before you disconnect.nakamichi wrote:Also,I noticed that Opera's download manager also sucks,as the one in Firefox.
