Ok, so what do you think about this proposal?
You guys (mods and everyone) are all WAREZERZ! It is true. I have been studying law for quite some time and I can tell you this much: whether it be indirectly or not, you are encouraging a medium through which illegal actions transpire. Emulation development encourages us to download and play illegal roms (btw, there is NO such thing as a LEGAL rom. It is all warez. Look at Nintendo's site). Be realisitic, who plays public domain roms when commercial roms are available anywhere? No one.
As for Titanium Studios, I have sent them an email and I am going to see what they official think regarding the status of their Quake port being distributed all over websites like this.
Also, I am going to write to the DMCA and see how they feel about these types of sites. I will keep you all posted :)

hmmm your an real idiot. You say theres no such things as legal roms, there are plenty at zophar.net. Besides since EGM has seen this site, its pretty likely SEGA has. So get a bloody life, and go KCUF around in an aol chat room. Oh and about Quake its "free ware" The full version is not being released here.

ok i seem to know more about computer related stuff than you average
#1 the nintendo site is bullsh*t yes there are legal roms...
homebrew, and in ~ 68-70 years all snes roms will be (and by that time maybe wel'l have full speed dsnes :D)
#2 Titanium studios isnt who you want to write
its either Microsoft, Sega, or IDSoftware
#3 the DMCA isnt a group its a Law (and an invalid one at that)
it (hopefully) wont last a whole lot longer
I use to support some of your sh*t (even if it was just flaming) but after seeing you bring up the DMCA im just gonna change every single view i have just to spite a DMCA supporter.

To any mods for this forum, I'd suggest this be moved to off topic, do it myself but this ain't my forum.
Now, for my turn to rant.
I have not heard a single good thing about the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (what I assume you are refering to by the DMCA). I have seen posts about developers not being able to get coders cables and other things from lik sang. This law is just another example of people trying to corner the internet. Makes me wonder why we waste time going after microsoft when laws like this threaten the very freedom of the internet. Sure, pirating is bound to happen, but if developer's don't want there stuff stolen, put a better protection device on it, don't screw the average joe. I remember hearing about when they made a ruling to stop the decss software development. You know, decss made a great backup tool, and banning it only hurts law abiding people who like to be able to back up their stuff.
And to the dipshit that wants to write everybody, why? Are you just trying to get us all screwed? Leave well enough alone. Yes we use roms that may not be legal. Do you think our use of nes, snes, master system, genesis, etc. roms has even the slightest capacity to hurt nintendo or sega, or god forbid atari? No. They do not make money off of this. Learn how the retail system works, you'll see why nintendo and sega "so actively" try and pursue rom distributors.
For quake, we only host the free portions of it. If you buy the full version, you can use it. If you asked quake's makers, I'm sure they'd piss their pants quite happily as they realised someone had opened a channel to them to crank a few more bucks and a larger fanbase for the quake genre. God forbid someone like the free original quake games and go out and buy future editions for the pc, dc, or whatever they develop on next, or even worse, take a liking to the developers and buy their products with little more recognition than their name on the package.
Encouraging the use of roms doesn't make something an app or a ware. All emulators are capable of is playing a hunk of code for some kind of reaction by an end user. Whether this hunk is pd or not, you cannot blame the software for doing its job. None of the software here is warez. We don't host segagen because it is still potentially viable in the market place, and hosting it might still cost sega a buck or two. Also, it keeps sega off our asses, and that's always a good thing.
If you don't like what we do and how we justify it, go find somewhere else to bitch and moan, start your own site up and try and maintain it, see how long you last.
Somebody ban this fag.

Public Domain
BTW, I'm probably off on this... but....
Nintendo, Sega, etc., have been pushing for years that ROMs are in the same category as computer software... to make sure they get government protection from copying. Therefore...
Wasn't there laws passed several years ago that states that "7 (?) years after a software product has ceased being sold, it is public domain"?
I think the "7" years may be off, but doesn't this say that Nintendo and Sega can't touch ROMs of games that were no longer sold before '95? So they could make a stink about a large portion of SNES games, but nothing about (most) NES games?
average needs to prioritze and spend time doing constructive things.
Yea, and it bites that Angie Harmon-Sohorn isn't on "Law & Order" anymore.

You do know that is not illegal, right? People sell smoking pipes, but what the people do with them is up to them. If they want to smoke something illegal with the pipes, that's not the seller's fault. You guys (mods and everyone) are all WAREZERZ! It is true. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote: In your statement you asserted that our actions, even though peaceful, must be condemned because they precipitate violence. Isn't this like condemning the robbed man because his possession of money precipitated the evil act of robbery? Isn't this like condemning Socrates because his unswerving commitment to truth and his philosophical delvings precipitated the misguided popular mind to make him drink the hemlock? Isn't this like condemning Jesus because his unique God-consciousness and never-ceasing devotion to God's will precipitated the evil act of the Crucifixion?

Oh no! You got me! I use SegaGen, I have warez! OH NOOOOOOO!average wrote: You guys (mods and everyone) are all WAREZERZ!
Who cares what I have. Point is I have common sence not to share them with anyone, post about how to get them on the site, tell anyone how to burn them, and close any topic I come across about warez. I have even gotten rid of my warez copies (finally) and bought the games that I liked.
Oh, and btw, I also study law. I am also a medical doctor, a part time fire fighter, landed about 5 lunar landings, discovered the cure for AIDs, and also have found proof of life on other planets.

umm....
i reeely don't like that. kay. i think that guy has too much time on his hands. Of course piracy will always exist, there is no doubt about that, but why ruin something good because of one person. I know this is not a very accurate model, but it's a lot like the kid who jumps off the slide to see if he could fly. The parent's get angry for the school allowing the child to take this action, and the school removes the slide. This process repeats itself at some schools until there is nothing left to jump off of, but it still happens. Why shut down a great site like this? tisk tisk.

know what? YOU SUCK!"-Fritz Fraundorf

In closing: Find something new to flame about guys. The same cycle of crap keeps getting recycled. It was funny the first two times, alright the third. This is now at least the 20th time.
