What's that Russian music called? And that Jewish stuff?
You know that Russian music where they dance really low kicking out their feet? Is there a name for that?
And that music that they play in Jewish things, where they're in a circle and stuff. What's that called, if it has a name?

A quick Google of the word makes it seem as if that could be it. I'm downloading an MP3 in eMule (slowly) now, and searching for MIDIs.impetus wrote:klezmer? (the Jewish music)
One down (hopefully) and one to go.
EDIT: I can't figure out if Klezmer is one song or an entire style. You know what I'm on about, right? The stuff where they'll all be in a circle and go "Oi!" every now and again.

sorry, dunno anything about it - except that it is a Jewish-based musical genre (not just a song).
as for the russian stuff, my fav composer Tchaikovsky is all about the Russian dance. Dunno if that genre has a name though.

Klezmer is a music style.
There's a lot of different traditional Russian and Jewish music styles. Some great stuff IMO!
I specially love if one sings folk songs in 'Jiddish' (a German/Polish/Hebrew language mix iirc) - it always breaks my heart and I instantly have to cry for the pure beauty of that kind of singing - I am serious!
I can understand almost every word - It's really close to German in some ways but it sounds a lot better.
I am not really sure what you are searching for - it's my bad English, I guess
Try to explain it again with a few more words so I can guess were you are aiming at.
Greetings,
Chris

I used to know what that Russian dance style was called, and I can't remember it right now for the life of me. It'll probably hit me in the middle of the night tonight while I'm sleeping.

the russian dance u speak of is called the Kozak Dance, after the mighty cossacks that rebelled against russia, and what would be considered the old U.S.S.R.az_bont wrote:You know that Russian music where they dance really low kicking out their feet? Is there a name for that?
