Gamecube vs Ps2

Post by ted e bomber » Thu Jul 08, 2004 2:58 pm

Me and my friend got into an argument,a which is better, ps2 or gamecube. I say ps2 mainly because of the FF games. Ps2 is the game system matched with DC. Dc always wins, but it has to be good to be the only one matched with the DC

^- thats all a matter of of opinion to be honest.

each system has there ups and downs, there all unique to be honest. each system offers a decent line up of games. to debate which is better isnt an issue, cause in the end, it really only matters what you like. and dont be surprised if this gets a lock soon...

PS2 has a larger variety of games. GC had more unique games, and a better graphics engine.

i have a GC - i'm not buying a PS2 - even with FF, FF is a decent game, doesn't make the PS2 itself a better system

They assumed it was better because, A.it was smaller and more portable,
B. They were playing starfox. and c. it was blue.
Yes i like some gamecube games, but many i like ff7 and on and rpg and fps games on the ps2. They dont have a life and only play starfox and pokemon. They never seen FF and say its too confusing.

But no matter what DC is the best untill sega comes back and creates another system. but no matter what a better sytem will come.

Dc is still the best.

gamecube is more powerful. it is more of a sucessor to the DC than PS2 is, so that might be a draw. There are a few good RPGs on the Gamecube and it can play GBA games with the adapter which is a plus.

This topic is probably gonna get locked because there might be a flame war. I think PS2 better just because I like there action, fighting, and shooting games more. But if you going for multiplayer, GC.

I think overall I like PS2 better. There aren't as many A+ type titles (like Metroid Prime), but the much larger number of A-list games makes up for it. Both are worth owning.

I prefer my GC. When all the consoles were coming out, I wanted a PS2 oh so badly, I never even thought about getting a GC, but some people here talked me into getting a GC instead, and being cheaper I went for it. Now that I have a PS2, I got to play the games that I wanted to before I got it like FFX, GTA:VC, Kingdom Hearts, Twisted Metal Black, and now I'm kinda bored with it at the moment. It has some really nice games that stand out, but the replay is low.

I love the GC much more in so many ways. The games are priceless, I like the system itself, I like the BIOS interface, it's much easier to switch games, and I like it better overall.

I would say on this forum your not going to get too many ps2 votes. I would say Gamecube for the sheer fact its more powerful, cheaper, and all around better built. LAtely I haven't seen anything on Playstation 2 I have wanted that I can't get on Gamecube. I actually haven't played my Ps2 since I sold Vice City several months ago. If it wasn't for the Squaresoft RPG's Id probably sell my PS2.

Both. PS2 has more games, GC has better games, so really choosing one or the other is pointless.

this is the science bit - concentrate!

number of games:
PS2 wins

number of high quality exclusives:
GC wins (kinda arguable...)

Technical Power:
GC wins

Backwards compatibility:
PS2 wins

Peripherals:
PS2 wins

Price:
GC wins

Use as anything other than a games machine:
PS2 wins

online capabilities price:
GC wins

online capabilities number of games supported:
PS2 wins

niceness of controller:
GC wins

thats 10 categorys to classify a console by, and the results are:
GC: 5
PS2: 5

ladis and gentlemen, we have a dead heat.

EDIT: the savvy amongst you may feel free to exclude the qualitys that have nothing to do with whether a console is good as a console to arrive at a different answer.

How exactly does the Gamecube win online capabilities price?

The equipment required to play games online costs considerably less for the PS2, and it actually has a number of games that do not require a monthly subscription, unlike the Gamecube and Phantasy Star Online.

Admittedly, tunneling software allows a couple of LAN games to be played for free over the internet, but then the same applies with the PS2 - but then each has a very small number of games capable of doing this, and it still costs more to do it on the Gamecube.

well, luckily for me, i couldn't give a rat's ass about online gaming - prolly why the GC still appeals to me. but i know a lot of people DO care about online gaming.
