Free Image Hosting
Right, I know there is a big long list of image hosting sites on the Art Forum, but most of them dont really do what i require because they either:
1) Dont work
2) Offer tiny amounts of bandwidth
3) Limit file size, or just shrink the picture resolution
So, I need a way of hosting some pretty big images with thumbnails etc. either on a website (which doesnt have the above limitations) or a php/cgi/whatever thingie of some kind I could set up on my own web space.
Any suggestions?
Oh, and I dont want to pay anything, and Im not prepared to use a freeware thumbnail creator, because they cause too much hassle by making copies of images everywhere, and they usually produce nasty looking output.
Thanks peeps!

And no thumbnail galleries, its just for hosting random pics.
I think php thing or whatever might be a better option to be honest, but there are loads out there, and I cant be bothered installing and setting one up to find its poop.

Have you considered a software solution? I'm always seeing thumbnail software on PC cover discs, and there's probably a whole host of similar stuff free on the internet. You basically give it all your photos, and it generates a thumbnail gallery in the form of a regular HTML web page.
You can then upload everything at once to your personal web space with your favourite FTP client. Any server-side script is going to process things slower than your own personal PC, and they won't allow the level of customizability (is that a word?) that a software package would.

I have considered software solutions yes, but its not going to work out because:
1) In the future I will be uploading images from many different locations
2) Software thumbnail gallery creators are all very nice, but sometimes I may want to update a gallery with 1 image or something, which makes the whole thing a lot more complex

Once again, they shrink the image down significantly, and charge you loads to see it in full. Its vital that the images are displayed in full.MKE wrote:http://www.clubphoto.com

No, I can do that with my own hosting.MKE wrote:do you want to use it just to host image's to post them on message boards and stuff?
if so, all you do is click to see a preview of the pic, right click the pic, and copy the jpg pic link...
I want to store a large number of high resolution images in a thumbnail gallery, you click on the thumbnail, the picture is shown full size, in all its high res glory.
Closest thing Ive found that actually does it properly is photoshack, but its evilly slow and keeps giving 404 or whatever. Which is why Im also prepared to consider cheap premium options.

http://www.pix8.net any good?
Don't know if they have a max file size, you get 100MB storage though and you can set up a photo album with thimbnails of all your pics

Ok. I tried that pix8 site but they didnt email me.
Im now with some dodgy company called saveapic or something and they have like a million variant sites.
Its ?1 a month for 1000MB of bandwidth, no file size restraints, unlimited file storage, public slideshow, gallery and portfolio, offsite linking enabled.
