Why it's best for girls to remain quiet.
Girl: So what is it that you're working on?
Kyle: It's basically a windows program that helps people create Dreamcast compilation discs.
Girl: You're making a game?
Kyle: No.
Girl: I know a guy who does something like that.
Kyle: Really, howso?
Girl: He modifies Xbox systems.
Kyle: That's not exactly the same...
Girl: My boyfriend can now copy games to run off of the harddisk, isn't that cool?
Kyle: Not especially.
Girl: So you think you're smarter than him?
Kyle: No.
At this point I wander off with a headache from subjecting myself to such a pointless conversation.

I vote a nice rack over booty anyday.
Oh, come on, I'm joking, people.

...And the kinds ignorance and stereotypes revealed in this topic, no matter how half-hearted they may be, are EXACTLY the reason this forum seems practically devoid of female presence
There are actually far more psychological and personality differences WITHIN a subset of "men" or of "women" than there are between the two.

Tell that to my ex's
One is a professional pixel artist, and the other does spreadsheets and scripting for a living.
Aside from that, why do you think there aren't more women in the field? Because it's been socially established as a "men's field." Sure, they don't know anything at first--did you know how to program or work with hardware the first time you ever laid eyes on a PC or console? But rather than treating all newbies the same, the women often seem to be ostracized for being interested and WANTING to learn, so they don't pursue it. You forget that everyone knew nothing and had to start at some point.

I'm aware, society raises women one way, and men another. I've heard some poop on how men can handle math and science better, but I don't believe it. But the way that ~80% of women are raised and grew up, they wouldn't know about this sort of thing. In all honesty, I don't know one girl in all my high school that is beyond competent with computers.DaMadFiddler wrote:Tell that to my ex's

Must everything become so warm n' fuzzy? I think I'd take the moronic responses over the last few that glimmered of cheese.
I rarely talk to any females these days that aren't intellectuals. A personal choice perhaps, but the point wasn't that she was dumb. This was an extremely bright girl, a self-described "gamer" if you will, getting huffy with me in not wanting to see the relation between homebrew Dreamcast games and illegally copying Xbox games.
I'd never write off the entire gender, but even those I hold in highest regard end up disappointing me.
Tangent... If the ex's were so wonderful DaMadFiddler, why are they no longer around?

Statement seems a little contradictory to me...but the reason I responded the way I did is because it sounded like that was EXACTLY what you were doing.burnerO wrote:I'd never write off the entire gender, but even those I hold in highest regard end up disappointing me.
...Never said anything about them being "wonderful," just that they were quite technically competent. That often has very little to do with how a person is overall...and since you must delve into the personal arena with this, I am still good friends with both of them; we just weren't good romantic matches.burnerO wrote:Tangent... ...There's a difference between "cheesy political-correctness" and "being fair." I was taking more the latter tactic--PCness leads to a lot of goofy problems and screwed up censorship; that's not what I'm promoting. But I don't take kindly to brazen biggotry...and I've seen quite a bit of sexist-tinged stuff on the board in the last couple months, I just happened to choose this thread to finally respond to it.burnerO wrote:Must everything become so warm n' fuzzy? I hope this doesn't come off sounding like a personal attack on you; that's not what I'm trying to do. I'm just trying to stem the tide of what looks to be a rather negative trend.

My conversations with a girl i know with very large boobs consists basically of these types of phrases...
"How do you rewind a DVD?"
"What does english have to do with a cue ball?"
"This beer tastes like orange juice..."
"You're going to a drug store? i thought you quit drugs!"
*big sigh*
oh well......at least the view is nice
