Just a question but how the hell were sega going to do a "just plugin a new drive and volla you have a DVD playing DC"? For that to work you would require MPEG2 decoder... I have never seen anyone even talk about the DC having MPEG2 decoding abilities. Which is probably why no one has written a SVCD player for DC. Anyway the DC doesn't have MPEG2 decoder right?

It was going to fit under the Dreamcast, like the Karaoke machine does.

It was a DVD addon unit with the decoder onboard.

I know it's real. I showed the mod to my friend and he did it to his other friend's Dreamcast. He said he'll show it to me later.

For the people confused about the Dreamcast DVD there were 2 flavours. One was an add-on that fit under the DC and plugged into the Modem expantion port. It worked too, i saw some pictures from e3 or some kind of trade show..

The OTHER flavor was totaly different, and really quite a sad tale.

It was a NEW style Dreamcast that looked kinda like a Mini-PS2 but in silver. It had a sliding-tray drive, and could stand on its end, like the PS2 and YES it only had a SINGLE drive for both games and DVDs.

I have seen pictures all over the internet of this, im sure they are not hard to find.

All i can say is. I would have bought one....

I have no idea if it would have played DVD games, probably not.
