According to those pesky rumours, Nintendo of Japan are planning to release four online games next year, including... Mario Kart!
If we may put on our Chandler voice for a moment - could there be a better online Nintendo game? Just imagine, the Nintendo crew of Mario, Yoshi, Bowser and pals, karting around online circuits with players from across the globe... it's the kind of thing that could bring countries together. According to rumours in Japan, Mario Kart Online would be just one of the four proposed games Nintendo are planning for the GameCube in 2003. Think about it - when was the last time you saw any details on Mario Kart on the GameCube? For such a flagship title, you'd think we would have seen more of it by now - maybe an online facility is holding it up?
The other three supposedly online games in the works - Mario Party Online, Animal Forest Online and GameCube Wars - are all well and good, but it's Mario's crazy karting buddies that have got us excited. Nintendo are going full steam ahead with their online strategy now, and have announced the Japanese release date for both the GameCube Modem adaptor and Broadband adaptor - September 12th and October 3rd (past)respectively. They're finally getting behind online gaming, in Japan at least.
It'd ALMOST make me go out and buy one...

Yeah, I didn't even notice the Gamecube broadband and modem adapters aren't even in most online stores, and either one sells for $80 used. What's with that anyway? I must have missed out on all the news... why such hardware shortage? Or is Nintendo just not gonna promote it much until their is more online games?
