That's not a Dreamcast Devkit. That's the PC. Sitting on a box. Under the Dreamcast. Shuttle makes these tiny little specialized motherboard and case combos, with like one (maybe two?) PCI slots or something, which is why he bought the PCI version of the video card to go with it.clessoulis wrote:Sweet you got DC Devo kit.

Yeah, I have the very first model Shuttle ever made. It only as one PCI slot. The newer ones are much better and have 1 AGP slot, 1 PCI slot, P4 support, and DDR Ram support as well as a bunch of other nifty features. If you set it up right it can be just as powerful as a fully tricked out tower. I'm going to buy a new one that is based of the nForce2 chipset once it comes out. My PC actually is set up for deving over a BBA or Coder's Cable although I'm rusty on my coding skills and haven't used it for much other than testing and games. The box is actually my subwoofer.someoneElse wrote:That's not a Dreamcast Devkit. That's the PC. Sitting on a box. Under the Dreamcast. Re: My CD-RW upgrade.
As previously stated, I'd like to upgrade my CD-RW. Methinks this could be the one. Get the full poop here.Number Six wrote:Uhhh...

Its probably the graphics card. I borrowed my Friends nVidia Ti 4600 and everything ran smoother than my GeForce 4 MX 440.zero wrote:damnit... in 3d marks 2001se i only got 975. it must be my gfx card thats holding it back, cos some of the demos run like poop. i was only getting around 20fps on the first demo and so on. so could the be something else holding my pc back or is it the gfx card. if its the gfx card im gonna buy one as soon as i can, cos i didn't know it would hold my pc back like that

People still live under the impression that the main factor of a computer is the CPU. Thats not true. While you require a CPU for your pc to run, nowdays you should sacrifice CPU power to bump up other components if you have the chance (especially if your a gamer).
RAM - The new ram types PC2100, PC3200 etc are important. The faster the ram, the faster your computer responds. And it will also be more stable. Shy away from PC133 and PC100 ram if you are building a new pc, dont mix ram types as well. If your into design then you should look at 512 MB ram at least.
Video Cards - In the old days your cpu did all the graphical work and sent it to the video card so that it could display the image on the screen. Nowdays the graphics card does most of the graphical work and the CPU only does small parts. The more expensive your graphics card, the better visual effects you will get and you will get higher frame rates. Plus your cpu is able to concentrate on game AI, etc, further enhancing your game.
Sound - Sound built into the motherboard is fine, but if you want crisp sound, with lots of cool effects that cheap sound cards simply cant do then you need a better sound card. Having the sound card do most of the sound work also cuts workload on the cpu.
All Up - Basicly a computer is the sum of its components. Go cheap on a few things and it slows your whole PC down.
A PC with a super high grade CPU with a low grade graphics and sound card will perform slower then a mid range CPU with a deacent graphics and sound card.
IF ANYONE NEEDS ME TO SUGGEST THEM THE BEST COMPONENTS FOR A NEW PC I'D BE MORE THEN HAPPY TO, BUT IM ONLY DOING THAT BY REQUEST. If your interested state what you will be doing with your pc and your spending budget is too.
As for my PC specs
My Desktop PC (which does a lot of web design)
- Athlon 1.4Ghz

Laptop (For presentations and general web surfing)
- IBM Thinkpad 570
- 196MB PC100 RAM
