Ok Gang I've got a mystery

Post by lackofsense »

I'm trying to remove System tool 2011 from my dad's computer.
Attempting the manual way I find no out of place processes, no random entries in the registry, and no random folders in the program files. I am somewhat stumped.

Can anyone help me?

Malwarebytes + SuperAntiSpyware usually does the trick.

I don't know about the "Program Files" being a popular place for infections to setup, but you should probably check out the 'AppData' or 'Application Data' folders for randomly named directories.

There's a possibility a standard anti-malware scan won't detect root-kits (unless specified, and supported) in the program's options. Also, Most to none of them will look for master boot record (MBR) infections by default. see - TDSSKiller

Reinstalling Windows costs $129.99, not $8,000.00.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

When a cool customer comes in, I have a hard time telling them that the costs of us getting viruses off of their computer or tweaking some things will start to approach the cost of purchasing a new computer, since cheap computers nowadays do enough for 99% of users.

Yeah, some things are really expensive to you and me, but after a while you start to realize that some people are just really fucking stupid and to them, it's worth it. Some people don't want to deal with buying a computer and then having to install the Office and anti-virus software. We offer to install your anti-virus, install your Windows Update, install Office, and make recovery discs to DVD-Rs for about $150, and half of the people do it because they want to open the box, plug it in, and it works. To you and me it's second nature and we might actually enjoy it, but most people don't understand how half of this shit works and just wants it working out of box.

After a while, though, you realize that a lot of people are assholes and idiots and it's all a big idiot tax. If you really have to make a call or trip to the Geek Squad, guess what? You probably deserve to pay out the ass for your stupidity. There have been times where I felt bad for someone who obviously didn't have the money to pay us to format and restore their computer, so I tried to tell them quickly that it's easy and they can do it themselves, and once I begin to explain they're like "Okay, you're losing me, I'll pay the $130."
