DreamShell 4

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Great, I will test it as soon as I get sme cd's...

EDIT: I have tested it, but it does nothing but showing a splash screen about dream shell then a black screen again, and it idles...

What's supposed to appear after that? or is that it?
where is the GUI?
where are the commandline options?

Dreamshell is a custom Dreamcast Operating system.
This project was collecting dust on the shelf due to lack of interest (and a very limited user-base). That's why the decision was made to make a new kernel that is cross-platform. This way it can be compiled on various platforms.
Porting Dreamshell is really easy, since there's no low-level hardware kernel.

Current kernel support DC, PSP, and PC...
yada....yada..yada...

What's new in version 4?
practically everything, starting with new kernel

the console is now drop down, and the point of this OS is not to REQUIRE the console, but only have it as a tool for advanced users. While the rest of the OS remains GUI

Everything developed for DreamShell4 will run on all systems of that cross-platformed kernel, currently supported modules are lua and XML.

*/
*yawn* a little too ambitious for practically imho

I have to try it to first to see what it includes and the possibilities for the modules then I will tell you the best way to implement some of my ideas.

So is there a working beta on dreamcast?

I wasted a cd by burning beta 1, I also have a BBA I'd like to launch it from the pc if possible...

Here is a working version DreamShell 4.0

http://www.dc-swat.net.ru/ds/download/

I have a forum you can find some information about creating applications.
http://www.dc-swat.net.ru/forum/index.php?showforum=33

DreamShell 4.0 - XML Doc (full)
DreamShell 4.0 - App dev (very simple)
DreamShell 4.0 - API Doc (very simple)

You can use the google translator, but sure to read the code in its original form (translator makes it an error).

Well I'm interested, as I said above, I burnt 4.0 beta 1 for nothing because it just stays idle when the dreamshell screen appears, then nothing can be done...
Not even console commands or something.
Is there a way to change to console mode?

BTW, did you receive the SD CARD INTERFACE library?

You do not know how to open the console? It opens when you press the F1 key on your keyboard.
Yes, I received a SD card library, thanks. Already working on its implementation in DreamShell virtual filesystem, for ease of working with SD (almost everything is already working).
Coming soon will be available to Beta 2 with support for SD Card and the first simple applications (file manager).

P.S.
I have heard that there is integration with the KOS virtual filesystem that library if it is, then where can I get? At the SVN it's not.
