Shenmue PAL Save Converter

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Shenmue PAL Save Converter

Post by Juan »

It's an utility that allows to convert an american Shenmue I save into a PAL one to use with Shenmue II.
bucanero wrote:Some notes about it: you might notice the logos and screens saying ´VMZip´, but dont worry, its because I didnt have time to make new screens for the beta.
Using the converter is pretty simple: browse and select your Shenmue 1 savefile, press "A", and then select the destination VMU to save the fixed PAL Shenmue save.

My suggestion for beta testing: save the converted file in a different VMU, so you won´t overwrite your existing (and WORKING!) save file.

If it works nice for the "beta testers", then I can do a proper ´official´ release.

I've made an SBI to be hosted at http://www.dchelp/sbi/ - You can download it right here:

It seems this could be done before this tool came out; just using Dream Explorer's hexediting utility.

So, in case anyone wants to try it that way, read this:

I did it last year using the hexeditting technique. It does work, but I wouldn't recommend it over the tool, since it's an utter pain in the ass.

Yes, I remember reading about the hex editing technique actually a few years ago for Snenmue 1 save to PAL conversion.
