Is any creating any 2D rpg's for the DC now?

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

I see all these Flying games out there but I was wondering if anyone has released an rpg or is planning to release one for the DC? How would someone go about creating a homebrew game?

I am actually working on a 2d rpg together with some friends. It will be using pre-rendered backgrounds like Final Fantasy 7-9. If any of the 3d-libraries for Fenix gets ported to Dreamcast there might be 3d-elements as well. Id like 3d-battles for example. There a few libs which use software-renderer so they should be portable to DC. Like this one, using SDL and Yeti 3D : http://forum.divsite.net/viewthread.php?tid=3954
Anyway, that is beyond me. But Im working on an rpg. But I have some games I will release for DC first. A Micro-Machines-style racing-game for example. So it will take a while until its done.

Can any of you help me find out what I need to do to, to make a dreamcast game? I would like to make a 2D Rpg. Then maybe I could venture further, but I just want to create a 2D Rpg. I think this generation is missing out. I have some ideas but if any of you could help, I would appreciate it.

You could try using Fenix. It suits 2d-games perfectly. Read this thread for more info. I have posted some useful link a bit down : http://www.dcemulation.org/phpBB/viewto ... sc&start=0
Chui has also posted the latest version of the DC Fenix Interpreter and compiler there.

...There are rumors of Zelda Classic being ported to the GP2x, which (I'd assume) means Allegro is being stripped out of the code in the porting process.

This may make it easier for further ports, and Zelda Classic would open up a huge, highly moddable action-RPG gaming option for the DC.

What is this Charas? I was reading a forum post saying that Charas(not sure if I spelled it right) is good for character models like FF. I was wondering if anyone here had used it .

A port of Zelda Classic would rock! I really hope it will happen!

Right on...

...too many freaking shooters, and not enough games with depth I.E. a good RPG construction kit or something, or something that can run RPG Maker 2k or XP files on the DC. I know they are working on stuff like this on the DS, so maybe it will come to the DC too?
