Requesting donations for buying a BBA for BlackAura

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Requesting donations for buying a BBA for BlackAura

Post by Christuserloeser »

BlackAura wrote:The networking code that Quake 1 and 2 uses actually wouldn't need much modification to get it working on the Dreamcast (and I might have tried if I had a BBA, which I don't). The KOS networking API is pretty standard, so the only bits that really need changing are the initialisation bits (because you need to initialise the network hardware, rather than just assuming the operating system has done it all for you).
I read this at the QuakeDev forum and thought it would be cool to start asking the community for donations with the goal to buy a BBA for BlackAura.

In my opionion BlackAura would deserve it. I don't know where this scene would be without his valuable support, hints and advice he gave and gives other coders seeking for help.

So, if you got the time, money or the connections, please support this idea.

Of course if it would be successful and BlackAura gets a BBA there can be no promises made. It likely could be projects like GenesisPlusDC, nxDoom or nxMakaqu (Quake) that he continues to work on with it, but everyone that donates money should be aware that there no obligations that come with one's donation. The only purpose of my request and your donation would be to support BlackAura and to thank him for the work he has done in the past and that he probably will do in the future.

If you are willing to contribute, please PM BlackAura for your donation.

Thanks in advance.

I can donate some as well if it can be done through Paypal. Need to put it there first though, might take a few days.

It would certainly be a good idea beforehand. Also note that currently any networking in KOS is limited to the BBA/LAN adapters. The modem will NOT work for any sort of networking right now (Its something that's on my list of things to fix in KOS eventually).

Hold up. Didn't someone send ian michaels a BBA? or was that just a coders cable? Either way, that lamer shouldn't have received anything.

Now BA on the other hand, if it were possible, I'd donate. No paypal, etc. :(

Ironcially, it was Quzar.

Anyway, I could have sworn you had a broad band adaptor BlackAura.

How much are they, anyway?

Wouldn't it be cheaper if someone just borrows a BBA? The costs of sending and receiving it from someone may be smaller.

I have no idea, honestly. I'm very busy lately with school and such, and PPP is quite an undertaking to implement.

I still have some spare money on my Paypal account so I can give him some support, seems fair to me seeing how much he has done for the community. Even though I won't be able to play games like Quake 1 and 2 using a BBA myself, it still seems fair for saying thanks this way for other projects such as GenesisPlus :)

Nick is selling one right now. And yes, I think I can spare what I have left over from buying stuff from him.

How much? And I don't see a reason for him not giving us a deal if he's gonna sell it, specifically for a good cause.
