Relggis.
Well, I've decided to make a few chagnes to my project recently.
First of all, my main goal, is not any longer to make a game engine for my project MMXO, but to make MMXO on my game engine!
Confused?
My engine, at present.. is hard coded for the way X moves, and such. Only way to modify this, would be to modify the source code, rebuild, etc.
One would require knowledge of C, and have the build environment setup..
Now, instead.. i'm going to recode bits of my engine, to be completely customizable. Meaning.. you can easily, drop in new 'parts', or edit existing ones with tools I will write. Better explaination available upon request..
Basically, i'm making a make-shift 2D game creation 'kit'. Also, I'm coding in a Chrono Trigger style battle system as well, for those wishing to make RPGs, not platform games.
This will take a long while to complete.. so don't expect anything tomorrow, next week, next month, or even in several months. It will take a while.
What I'd like is some input, on how many would actually make any use of this? I already know of a few from IRC who would use this, (Nyar is the only reason i'm coding in the battle system). And.. also what you'd like to see in the engine. Ideas and such.. suggestions, and all that.
Oh, and one important note..
DO NOT ASK ME TO MAKE IT IN 3D. I HAVE NO INTEREST IN 3D AT ALL!!
If you suggest I make a 3D engine, I will hunt you down.
*caresses his face crushing brick, and sharpened stick of eye poking*
Btw, the engine's name is Relggis. Hence the name of the post.
Try to geuss where that name came from..

When I first saw the name of this topic I thought you must have been drunk!MrSiggler wrote:Btw, the engine's name is Relggis. Hence the name of the post. Try to geuss where that name came from..
I think most people here are more interested in 2D stuff than 3D stuff anyway, so I think a "make-shift 2D game creation 'kit'" should go over well with the punters.
Is this something you'd like posted on the main page or has 007 finally pulled his finger out & made you a newsposter, after I asked him to do it OVER A MONTH AGO!

Mr Siggler, this does seem a very interesting project you are working on here. I have a quick question for you, will a novice programer (such as myself) be able to utilise your "2D game engine" to create something with an overhead scrolling perspective?
I only ask this because I think a recreation of "Xenon" or something would be sweet.

Thanks, that is very cool indeed!MrSiggler wrote:Ah.. the up scrolling space shooter type games..
Aye, those will be possible. Side scrolling ones as well of course.
Xenon was one of my favourites back in the days of the Atari ST and I recently found a copy of Xenon 2 for megadrive cheap (aka free)
Well, best of luck with your programming
