This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Just took a look at that site. There is even an SMS emulator (two actually, one doesn't work, but the other says it does). That might be a thing to test out with some legal/homebrew roms. http://www.pdroms.com has a couple for the SMS. There is even one Saturn homebrew game there.

Actually, this is a good site to find legal roms; as far as I know pdroms is 100% legal (no illegal roms or porn).

SegaXtreme is one of the best sites for Saturn dev stuff.
Although I'm partial since I'm a mod there.
But there are a few guys on the board that are pretty into it -- both of homebrew stuff for the Saturn and for Saturn emus.

Great news on your progress so far Blue, especially on the speed up, that should make testing a little easier at least. Let us know if you make anymore advances, this is a really interesting emulator.

Okay, status update. I have a new version of the source code to work with, and am attempting to get it to run correctly without any PVR acceleration right now. As soon as I finish with that, I'll work again on the PVR-based renderer.

Hey I dont know if this will help or not, or whether you already have it but here is some saturn technical documents:

Code: Select all

http://cgfm2.emuviews.com/saturn.php
Anyway I have been thinking of getting a Sega Saturn because of its 2D graphics capability (which I understand is good). Just wanted some views from the message board about it (I was thinking of mainly fighting games :-) )

yeah, I've seen that site before. And while I'm not a fan of fighting games, I've heard that there are quite a few good ones on the Saturn.

Good news everyone, I'm starting to get the new pieces of yabause code working on the Dreamcast, and vdp1 is now working! (at least what parts of it are in yabause) :)

It's very good! Lot's of great 2D games out for it, RPGs (MKRE), Adventures (Shining Wisdom), Sh'mups (DariusGaiden), Jump'n'Runs (Astal, ShinobiX) - even much more 8-)

@BlueCrab: Very good news!

I can't speak for fighting games since I wasn't into them at the time, but my favorites were Dragon Warrior, Guardian Heroes (excellent 2D game- fighting and RPG elements), Panzer Dragoon Zwei, and Nights. The last three are an easy find on ebay. The first one can be really expensive.

I did like a couple of other role playing games...one was from working designs, and I can't put my finger on one. At the time, I got a Saturn because of the RPG potential. There wasn't any for the PS. Then everything changed. I had both the PS and the Saturn for awhile, then my PS died just as I got FF7. Well, since I was poor in graduate school, I sold off the Saturn and all of the games. To this day: :brickwall:

It would be great to have a DC emu for the Saturn. I'd be the first to head over to ebay and pick up some of the games I used to have if they were playable.[/i]

If you want to see an incredible 2D game in action: Radiant Silvergun. The sequel, "Ikaruga", is on DC.
If you have twenty monkeys,
banging randomly on typewriters,
they will in twenty minutes produce the complete source code to World of Warcraft.

Bluecrab i want to say that : Man you're great :!:
Good luck for the rest and keep courage.

Alexvrb radiant silvergun is not a 2d game but a 3d game.
Shining force3 and a tengaimakyo 4 on dc will be great, but we have time.

Progress update:
I've started work on a dynarec-like CPU core for yabause-dc :)

By the way, I say dynarec-like because not much needs to be done in order to make the instructions work on the dreamcast, just byteswapping them.

Hehe, well, my dynarec thingy should be complete now... The only problem is how to keep the rest of the emulated saturn in sync with sh2 code. I guess I could force it to execute a certain number of opcodes.... not sure though.

Anyway, its almost 2:00 AM now, its time for sleep.....
