What's up with Punchout?

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

What's up with Punchout?

Post by 404NotFound »

I mean I'm not sure what this game is. I fired it up and it said Copywrite 1997... that's around when the N64 came out if i remember right...

So:

1: Why would a NES game be developed this late
2: (here is the emulation part) Why is it so hard to emulate?

1987

Its not that its hard to emulate, its just that its one of the games that requires the NES to run at an optimal speed.

Nintendo re-released punchout aka "Mike Tysons Punchout" and removed Mike.. I think it was done because Mike Tyson isn't the best role model for children.

your exactly right.....they removed mike cuz he was not a propper role model for kids, and of cource there is the small flaw where mike thought he was getting 50% of the cartridge sales, then it hit him that he was dead wrong and read the contract backwards or some shit then demanded they removed his ugly ass mugg from the game when he found out he was only getting 1 check with no royalties!

Although I could be wrong, I think Punch Out included a special chip in it's cart which has made it harder to emulate than other NES games.

Yeah it was the MMC5 chip, which wasn't used in any other games and not even in the Japanese version of Punch-Out.

1997 would be a dubious year, since 1994 was the last NES game published by Nintendo (Wario's Woods) and 1995 was the last commercial unlicensed game (Sunday Funday). Either you spotted 1997 wrong, the year tiles are messed up in the emulator you tried, or you fired up a hack mistakenly.

I actually own both Mike Tysens Punch-out and Punch-out. The only different between the 2 games is the final figher is Mr Dream and he looks like a white Mike Tysen. I do seem to remember Mr. Dream being a slight bit easier, but I could be wrong.

Mike Tyson is a loser who knows how to beat up women just the way he does to men in a ring(while he isnt biting them of course).

Yea the White Tyson in Punch-out was easier i rememba that for some reason too.

Off topic:

i just wanted to high light what ssj4goku128 said, I dont kno much about Tyson particuraly but wit Pac the media made him look EVIL. This could have easily happened to Tyson aswell.
