This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

NeoCD/SDL DC version 6.5

Post by Ian Micheal »

Hi people Sorry for the almost daily build here on this but this needs
a release. Ive made a few changes which brought about much better "speed" first up i made this build liked it so much i had to release it..

Speed and slow down fixes.
- metal slug is now much much better
- Control is now even better
- Bug fixed some code readded some missing part in cdaudio.c
- cdaudio now on time delay is much better.

This is much faster on the slow parts.
Framelimiter has been changed which makes it smoother. Re-added my pesudo frameskip as well
It's now really pretty speedy please give this a try on metal slug you will like it..

Thanks to fosters for the control fix and to quzar for all his great coding work on this emu He is done heaps on it bows to my mate! were not worthy hehe..

Speed up's to these games

-Aero fighters
-Pulstar
-Metal slug 1
-Metal slug 2

Many more are now fullspeed!!

I would like feed back on the speed change between this and V6.

Now If i may please give feed back on metal slug 1 and other's as the speed up might be just my eyes but i dont think so it's heeps faster to me.

Please let me Know!

I agree, Metal Slug does seem to be much better in this version, controls are very solid. I haven't tried Metal Slug 2 yet as it is out on loan to a friend. This emu is reaching elite status very quickly. Great job NeoCD/SDL team! :)

- Samurai Showdown 4 works, but has a few graphical glitches ( no background behind life bars, own energy doesnt seem to show right)
Speed is a little slow, i?d say 80 %
- Metal Slug 1 is much better than in 5, still could use a little more speed
- Metal Slug 2 also a lttlle slow, controls are good,, when lots is going on on the screen it goes down to i?d say 60 %

also when running via vga box, screen is in the middle ( left <-> right ), but not centered ( top <-> bottom )
maybe you could scoot it down a little bit, would look even better

that has to do with the screen and how much area is outside of the display area. it is software centered.

6.5 is very impressive. Games I tried:

Last Resort- very nice speed but no sound

Ghost Pilots- awesome speed no sound

Ninja Combat- still a lil slow and no sound

Pulstar- Faster than it was good sound

Magician Lord- faster but still a bit off and no sound

Metal Slug- like ghost pilots ans last resort seems almost perfect speed wise and sound is great

Mutation Nation- Very much faster no sound

Very awesome release....I am happy with this emu...now if I could only find sengoku 1 and 2 and few others...

I have an idea to fix this. Going to try it soon.

I think 6.5 was a good name not 6.1 It's just that much more useable. If you cant see the speed change between 6 and 6.5 .. It's pretty big.

Im making some more changes and looking over the dos source and beos source versions pleanty of stuff we can use in these ports to help. I credit the beos porter from the start.

Thanks for the feed back i Knew Metal slug was faster just does not slow down as much i made it playing it a few hours with out the trouble i did the other day on the slow parts it hardly moved. But prolly was faster over all.

Any way Glad you all enjoy the fast update.

Hey, I'm sorry that I'm asking such a newb question, but how does this emulator work? Does it run roms or do you switch the cds and run off an original like with bleemcast? I hate to ask such a stupid question but I couldn't really find an answer to this in all the latest docs and posts I checked. Thanks.
