Any news on the "Metal Gear: Origin" project?

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Any news on the "Metal Gear: Origin" project?

Post by Stormwatch »

Metal Gear: Origin is (planned to be) a fangame prequel to Metal Gear, for the Dreamcast. This sure sounds very interesting, but the website has not been updated for quite a while.

:?: So... does anyone know anything else about it? :?:

Copy and pasted straight from the FAQ.
Is the game in 3D? Will it feature voice acting?

The game will be two-dimensional and is text only.

Was cancelled by Konami when decided to program for PS2 , in fact, you can count with the fingers of your hand the games of Konami for Dreamcast.
(Castlevania!!!!!! for DC had the same fate  )
Does anybody know how much games are there from Konami?

He said on the site that he is not releasing it to the public. Instead, he's going to give it straight to Konami in hopes that they will release it. Like Konami would be interested in releasing a 2D game made by some kid onto the Dreamcast. What a waste of work and talent. :(

All signs I've seen point to MGS3 being a prequel anyhow, so that may cause some problems.

I thought that MGS3 was supposed to just return to the jungle from the first game...not tell backstory in realtime (i.e., without flashbacks). So, it would still take place after MGS2. That was my impression from an interview I read at some point that was done with Kojima. Can anybody else shed any light on this? (as off-topic as it is...)

by text only I think he means conversations in the game would not be voice acted. Like the original "oh oh the truck is started to move" or whatever it was. I mean how could it be a 2d text adventure.

DJ: I could be misinterpreting stuff myself, but as I recall the trailer (E3 I think) implied that it was going to take place during the 1960s.

Where on the site does the game say it won't be released? All I see is a message saying that it won't be sold, and with a tentative release date sometime in August of next year.

It says it in a place that can't be found, where no man can travel. But its there.

Well, speaking of MGS (and segueing into a post about music), I had Dan post an ogg of a new song we're going to be using in Project X. It's in the Cryptic Allusion forums here: http://www.cagames.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=275.

It was very much inspired by Harry Gregson-Williams' music from the series, but I figured it'd make pretty decent menu music :D
