*NEW* homebrew game ported TRAILBLAZERDC

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

*NEW* homebrew game ported TRAILBLAZERDC

Post by reaper2k2 »

I have successfully ported a SDL game called TrailBlazer (DC).

Trailblazer is a remake of the Classic Arcade Game - steer your ball down the obstacle course in the fastest possible time. It found its way to the Commodre 64, Amstrad, and now, Dreamcast.

I added a sound track fixed the controls ported it from using fscanf all image's maps and ogg music are in the bin for fast loading and no mess .....

ONLY a first release its a complete game not a demo

keyboard only !

make sure to start a level when it first boots you tap THE A key the menu is a bit buggy and some time's crashes other then that its great

more info at my site

http://1337ghetto.kicks-ass.net/radsoft/index.htm

http://1337ghetto.kicks-ass.net/radsoft/pages/tb.htm

more games to follow ! first one ive done thats not a EMU and uses lots of my custom libs to work!

THE tekno hard core song is by me years ago its the sound track its called KICK A>S>S

You forgot the word pages in the link on your webpage. Is that screenshot on your page the game actually running on the DC? Or else I could make some new ones.

The URL on his site is wrong, this this link (like in reaper's first post in this topic): http://1337ghetto.kicks-ass.net/radsoft/pages/tb_DC.zip

Btw reaper, no offence, but if the original program is GPL'ed (and I think this game is), you need to make the sourcecode available. Correct me if I'm wrong. ;)

IT will not compile for any one since ive got 2 custom libs for it to work plus it uses the RAD_fade lib i dont know ill have to check i dont know about these things found it on a non english site only started on it today ! give me time man

RADquake has no source released ether i dont think any think but RAD-fade have i realeased the source to some devvers have my source to radquake and such if some one requests it then ill send it but it uses fsanf that does not work in normal kos and libc so it will not compile

its buggy as it is you have to tap the key board letter keys to get to levels and if it does ot work you have to reboot start again it does work and play thou

the sound track i just noticed has a bug and does not loop so it plays once and the next song does not start sorry should of bug tested it more

still im addict playing it send in your score's i want to try beat them hee

some other devvers here had gpl source and not released it yet

OH ITS only a beta 1 so please dont yell at me for how unstable it is i know it quiet unstable

the music is by me

YOU MUST TAP THE LEVEL KEYS A FEW TIMES FOR THE LEVELS TO START

the control is very touchy

TO START THE GAmE TAP THE A KEY LIKE MAD for a bit and it then starts some times it works perfect other times you have to tap

You'll also need to make the sourcecode available of any libs you used.

Releasing sourceode on request is fine and complies with GPL, though I think you'll need to mention this in the documentation.

They have to release their sourcecode if anyone asks for it.

have no problem with that next verison should have all the doc's fixed

Captain thats of the windows version i made first it be good if you can get some REAL DC shots

remember the game is unstable so if it does not work first time tuen it off and try again allways TAP THE A key on the keyboard first then it seems to work better still got problems with it the key polling is not really working right but in game when your playing is fine

just the menu that is buggy at best cant stress enff some times if you just press the A key nothing happens so tap it it up down up down etc to the level starts you no idea what a pain it was when i found out it was working after hours of just pressing the A key once and turn it off

B level seems to crash it

any ways hope people figer it out ! thanks for the support game programing is new to me mostly do emulation

Here you go, if you want them or not, some sreenshots:

Some in game screenshots

Start screen and scores page

There are 12 levels, each letter is one level. Be aware, this game is difficult! And nice music Reaper, it suits the fast gameplay. But it only plays ones.

I apologize for mentioning all that stuff about sourcecode in this thread btw, it's slighly off-topic. Btw, you said that the sourcecode won't compile anyway. That may be so, but other people could be helped by just looking at your sourcecode.

I personally hope that all developers will release sourcecode of all their projects (even if they're not required to do so by a license). That way we can all help eachother out. And everyone wants more and better Dreamcast homebrew software. :)

Btw reaper, is there any way to run this by just uploading it over serial cable or BBA? I've tried it but it doesn't seem to work. I'm not completely awake right now so I might be missing something obvious. :P

Maybe it has something to do with the filesize. Uploading .elf files over BBA also doesn't work for me and they are also quite big.

Use demo menu and a multi session disk like poor me. who does not have a cable if i did there would be a lot more stuff from me i burn every test this game took 2 cds worth of burns to get working right thats about 40 burns and 'compiles a CD about 15 hours or so work. dont ask! i get caught up and dont let any think beat me lol

Have demo menu handy

it is scrambled this may be funny to say but its pushing the dc memory limt just one more png file of 20k crashes it so its pretty unstable

captain your screen shots are on the site now with full credit to your self

cheers have fun with it AND post any fast level times to i want to try beat them!

Yeah and MAME is under a similar license as well.
I personally would like to see the source for all of your MAME ports. Consider this an official request as per the MAME license.
