Use VGA box With All games

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

I believe theres a patched version of the Utopia Boot Disk which boots things into VGA mode, but I'm not 100% sure on that...

by the way; you probably should have posted this in the general help forum...

There are actually some VGA Boxes with a "Passthrough"

These special VGA boxes will work on any Dreamcast game, and overides the need to look for VGA Support, Suprisingly enough it still looks awesome, even if its not supposed to be supported.

I believe they are the performance brand VGA adapters, but don't quote me on this...

(Theres also a Utopia Boot CD hack, which will run your imports and emulators in VGA mode, but I havent been able to successfully get it to work, I'll tell you where you can get it if you PM me, because the site may be a little unsuitable for posting on the boards (it contains info to rip GD-Roms)

if you have a VGA box with a TV mode dont you only need to keep it in TV mode until it boots up... just tested that on my moniter, it dosent work very well... on my moniter it must be 15.75Hz or 60Hz, it must boot up in a different Hz... though there is a swap method... and the Boot Disc 1.2 works with the VGA box... though i get the same message... there should be a 60Hz fix...

The Utopia disk I have will work when hooked up to my tv but it won't work when hooked up to my VGA box. Is there a way I can get it to work with my VGA box?

Thank you,

Eddy

yes, there is one way.

turn on your Tv, DC with VGA box in TV mode, 3 seconds after turning on your DC change The VGA box switch to PC mode and ! bwala! you can play any game without boot disk !

you can use this trick with all the sefbooting cds .

This works for some games (those which use VGA compatible modes but have an IP.BIN with the VGA support bit cleared), but you can't force a game that uses a non-VGA compatible resolution to work on a VGA box. So no, there's no way to make them all work.

Is there a version of Utopia that is VGA compatible? The version I have will only work on my tv and not with my VGA adapter. It will boot if my Dreamcast is hooked up to my tv. It won't boot and gets recognized as a music disk if I have it hooked up to my VGA adapter.

Thank you,

Eddy
