DC Programming Contest Voting

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

DC Programming Contest Voting

I'm voting for DreamInducer, mainly because I'm lazy. :) It's great not having to think about missing a step and wasting time in the burning process after leeching the latest downloads.

who should i vote??

anyways

hey Siggler, thanks for smashDC, a great game
if you could say something before u actually do it, i would ask you
if megaman X: odyssey is going to have a map like castlev SOTN, where there s no stages, only a great map to explore, kill bosses and pick up itens and, of course, defeat Sigma at the final.it would be excellent...
(a multiplayer mode like megaman 7 would be incredible...)
sorry but i have another question...will you make dckart a 4 players game? both would rulez cuz i loved the 2-d mariokart and megaman?s games too.
Good luck in your projects!!

Its close..... 35/36 Dreaminducer/Smash DC

I have to say that DreamInducer got my vote, simply because it has saved me so many CDRs, and also me getting up off my lazy ass to find the CD I want

I'm fairly sure MrSiggler has the Castlevania SOTN / COTM / Super Metroid type game firmly in mind for MMX:O - last I heard he was planning on having you be able to level up and gain new moves to reach different areas

My reviews, and final opinion.

JapAmerica: Couldn't get it working. The DI image that boney made, and the DJ image on the site doesn't work. So this is automatically out (i don't think i would like a demo anyway)

Dream Inducer: Great idea, bad execution. The software itself is minor, as it is no more than i a complex boot disc with previews and descriptions. The themes make up a major part of what you see, not the coder, so you have to look below the eye candy. Here is the major flaw: it is just too hard to use. Yes, i know a lot of you say how easy it is, but I should'nt have to rename and get scrambled and descrambled mixed up. For this kind of app it's almost a given to have a PC app to go along with it if you want true newb-a-bility, instead of leaving it up to others like Krypt.

3D Invaders: Great graphics! I was slightly disappointed by the "aliens" being nothing more than doughnuts, but it works. The blocks used to separate the doughnuts and you are a little too close together, thus making them more of a newsense instead of a block. There is sound, good sound at that. The problem with this game is the button layout. The reset button is far too easy to hit.

DC Blast: Very cool game, but it lacks any sound at all from what i could tell. The speed is slightly too high, it's hard to play when the aliens run so fast. Also, the aliens go the same speed, never speeding up, and don't advance on the ship. The shilds are generic, and are not represented by anything other than text at the top, not the best representation.

SmashDC: First of all, shouldn't this be SmashTV DC? Oh well. Anyway, after reading the intro, the MegaMan characters made a lot more sense. The load times were long, but that's not too big of an issue. There is music, and sound in the game, which i liked very much. This is so much like the SNES version that it's scary. The problem with the music is the transition between loops. The repetitive music (one track) wouldn't be so bad, except you notice that it's only one track when it goes to repeat and goes all wierd. Only one level, but that's not too bad, because this is a programming contest, not a mapping contest. From what i saw there were only two weapons, not what i would like to see.

Overall, I really liked SmashDC. It really gives me the feeling that a commercial game for the DC is possible.

SmashDC gets my vote.

Want to take over mine? *wink* *wink* I started it because none existed, and nobody showed any interest in making one, and I needed a place to host DCFactory themes.

It's php/mysql based, with a simple admin front-end that I can customize for you a bit.. I just don't have what it takes to run such a site anymore, and I can give you a ton of themes (100+) to start with.

T-MONEY wrote:To let you know, Im writing a simplified DI FAQ. I've done over 10 themes, haven't released any since I'm reigistering a domain and starting a site to themes for emulators, and such.

Anyways, should be done within a day or 2 pending how stewed i get on memorial day :D

Cheers,
-T

Made this video preview of SmashDC to promote the greatness of the game. However, it was partially edited so the video wouldn't be so big.

Use the latest DIVX 5!!! Or else it won't work.
If you think typing 'make' is hard, forget coding.
If you can't figure out the commands to DC-Tool, forget coding.
If you think coding is as easy as typing printf("Hello World\n"); , shoot yourself.

evil: u feel bad....look at me i got 1 vote(excludin mine)

As far as my demo goes the binary is on my site in the dwld section http://www.ffclub.net (Server switchin to Sayten's i think 28th may if my domain is correect) it is unscrambled also. or goto cv to get the scrambled one. Mexboot is what i use also.

I played Echo and Campaign and 3DInvaders and Grande tonite...wow that is all i got to say. Loved them a lot. Echo is far ahead of its time(in the scene)

well later everyone, offline for a while, i will work hard on that 2d fighter ver.1 for ya to enjoy. It will prolly just have 4 characters for this version w/1P and sound track for all to enjoy. Ver.2 will be by AtomicBits as a whole and will feature everything i fig.ed ver.1 would have. But i really dont want to wait that long to release it. ver.2 will have saving for high scores, ~40characters, vs+team+1p mission+other modes, the best sound track possible(big dwld), and other stuff that i cant think of right now.

whats preventing people from signing up new accounts just to vote for a program? do the polls have IP checks? what if the person is on dialup? i don't think these votes should be used to heavily, more the official jobs should count the most.

besides all that i voted for dream inducer.

There's technically not something stopping people from doing this, but it's being used as a rough estimate along with input from other sources.....
