Does JoshProd have a special licensing agreement with Cryptic Allusion?

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Does JoshProd have a special licensing agreement with Cryptic Allusion?

Post by mrneo240 »

Just wondering if Joshprod has a license to distribute KallistiOS or if they are in GPL violation.

KOS is not GPL. It's 3-clause BSD license.

Yeah, it's not GPLed, so it can be used in closed-source stuff; otherwise, much of the commercial homebrew out there would be in violation of the license, including Feet of Fury (which was coded by Dan).

That said, using it without acknowledging its use, including the license, and including all of the appropriate copyright notices is still not technically following the license. I have no idea if that is happening in this case, but it has been something that many commercial homebrew games have been quite lax about doing.
