Official Twin Sticks squeaking?

Post by Nico0020 »

My official Dreamcast twin sticks have started to squeak a bit. Since these were a bit expensive when I bought them I am a bit worried. What does this sound mean, and is there anything I need to do about it?

Yes, from what I've heard, this is something you need to take care of before any further use or else you risk breaking them. You'll have to open the unit up and apply some oil-based lubricant to the moving parts. That should take care of the squeak and prolong the life of your twin sticks. While you have the oil out, now's also a good time to open your Dreamcast up and apply the oil to the GD-ROM rotating screw (what pulls the laser back and forth) and gears. I also apply some to the supporting guide rail to ensure the laser can move smoothly.

For the twin sticks, I would go for something with a pasty consistency, a lot like vaseline, so it sticks in place and provides ample lubrication. For the Dreamcast, something like vaseline would gum it up, so I would go with a liquid oil of the petroleum distillate variety.
