hello all this may have been covered already but i could not find it so if it has just point me that way.
the newish sony MD system that uses the gigabite size discs arn't so expensive so i just wondered if you took one apart would it be possible to connect the disc mechanism laser etc to a regular dreamer instead of the GD rom drive?
cheers

Actually, no.
The MD format also uses magnetism to store data, so no. And its designed to move that small disc, not a 12 cm CD/DVD/GD/LD/SD/AD... etc etc

sigh...when will people understand that everything inside of a Dreamcast is meant to work SOLELY with things found inside of a Dreamcast (crazy-ass bios mods excluded). You can't take some Sony MD player, plug it into the mobo, and have the Dreamcast assimilate it.

i see did not think it was feasible. however i did not mean to spin the original GDroms rather i thought it would be possible to transfer the data from an original game to one of the mini disc gds itself then it would spin.
i do not understand the magnetism thing mentioned but i guess if they are fundementally not the same types of disc format / reading/ compression whatever then it would not work at all oh well.

Are you talking about mini-CD-Rs? I think basically what he was talking about with the magnetism was:
"Sony MD's function as both a super-high-capacity floppy disk and CD at the same time."

He was talking about the difference in the disks. One is magnetic, as in read by a magnet, the other is optical, as in read by a laser.

mmm.... n00b blood

I've been keeping my DC on top of a NeoGeo cart and it has started to play NeoGeo games.

Indeed it is. I just stole it.

But seriously, that's genius. You should expect people to copy you.

note the cable going from the back of the NG cart to the expansion port on the DC. QUALITY.
