I know circuit diagram that'll do the job (using a 555 timer) but there must be something more compact

Why do you want a led, that is connected to a battery, to blink every second?
Cheese?

You could setup a small alternating circuit using an inverter IC, a few resistors and a capacitor though I don't know if that would be smaller than a 555-based circuit?

There are blinking LEDs so the only thing you need then is a supply voltage but they aren't ultrabright and only have one Frequency.

An alternative to the Ne555 timer would be an unstable multivibrator (don't know the right expression in german it's astabiler multivibrator)

Here's a shematic for it

If you want to regulate the Frequency then you take a Poti (36K) and connect it's middle pin to + and replace the two Resistors Rb1/Rb2 with the outer pins.

If there isn't enough Power at A (Output) then you could use an MosFET (it can handle a lot p.e. 10A).

My schematic uses the 555 but needs to be put on PCB coz the timer needs other components to adjust speed

i know the ne555 timer
it's a very useful ic

But you could built it without an PCB and even on a PCB it would be small

To me it seems like a lot of work to get an LED t blink someone should maufacture a blinker module the size of a capacitor that would be sweet and usefull

I said there are these Blinkleds so you could connect one of these and your other LED (blue ultrabright for example) in series an the blue one qwill begin to blink to.

If you still want as blinking led, http://www.allelectronics.com has a good selection of LEDs blinking and not in quite a few colors.
