Loud DC Fan

Post by vladi02 »

I just bought a dreamcast off of eBay and the fan seems pretty loud compared to a friend of mines. How can I replace the fan?

Hey, sorry to disappoint you but unless u wanna spend lots on repairs than just buy a new dreamcast. My friend had a huge CHUURRRRRR on his dreamcast too and he couldn't find a way to repair HIS fan at all.[/img]

Some people have been able to put some lubricant into the fan to quiet it a little. The GD-ROM, too.

If a lot of the fan noise is from vibration against the shell mountings, you can get little rubber gaskets/washers to put over the mounting holes between the fan and the case where you screw them in.

They are becoming popular with PC case modders for fans and drive mounts.

Make sure there isn't any dust in there. Take a can of compressed air and just blow it in there a bit, see if that makes any differance.

Moved to Hardware Modification and Repair.

Mine did that too, but it was some wires for my "mods" rubbing against it.

WD-40 is a light penetrating oil and will get absorbed into the plastic, plus it won't last as long as grease. Damage could occur to your oil impregnated plastic and cause its structure to break down and wear out faster.

(I just turn the TV volume up so I can't hear the fan)
