Laser transplant

Post by Protofall »

I recently got a GDEMU. I own 3 Dreamcasts: a single Model 1 and two Model 0's. I've read that a GDEMU will only work safely in a Model 1 due to voltage differences, so I'll install it in that one.

However the laser in my Model 1 isn't completely dead yet whereas the laser in one of my Model 0's is totally dead. I know I can't transplant the entire Disk Drive because of the voltage difference issue, but I've heard the laser head can be separated from the rest of the drive. Can I transplant just the laser head from my Model 1 into my Model 0 and have it work safely?

Hi,

I am not a specialist and I have never done it.
But if you are going to replace the lens bloc why not buy a new one ?
I think there are only two kind of blocks for DC : SPU3200 (yamaha) and SOH-R48 (Samsung).
It depends on GD-Rom drive model.

Hope it helps :)
