Gamecube SD card adaptor/reader
Ok, I was going to mod a GC Memcard to read SD cards, but if you cannot use it as a memory card (which is what I need) why bother? Is it only so you can get your saves from a working memory card onto a Wii?

Re: Gamecube SD card adaptor/reader
If you have a Wii then it's kinda pointless to have a GC SD adapter.
They were mainly used for homebrew, and with that out of the picture, the only thing left to do would be to swap GC saves.
Not worth it, imo.

There are several emulators, a few ports of games like Doom and Quake, TuxCube, and a Linux distro. Though I believe most of this homebrew is already on the Wii.ccb_v2 wrote:What homebrew is available for the Gamecube?

Indeed, pretty much anything of interest in terms of GameCube homebrew has already been ported to Wii. And Wii homebrew is quite fast and pretty painless to set up; all you need is a Wii, an SD card, and a copy of Twilight Princess.Eviltaco64X wrote:There are several emulators, a few ports of games like Doom and Quake, TuxCube, and a Linux distro. You can get more info about what's available here:
www.wiibrew.org
The Dreamcast, PSP, and GP2x still have more actual homebrew GAMES, however. Most "homebrew" focus on consoles (including Wii) seems to be setting up emulators.

this method is what I'm currently using for the wii to play snes, nes, saturn, and neo-geo. Re: Gamecube SD card adaptor/reader
Aren't the Saturn and the NeoGeo pretty much unplayable? I haven't tried, so I don't know. The N64 program is so slow as to be worthless, and I can't seem to get the TG16 program to run Dracula X. The others work great...though I would like to see more worthwhile homebrew *games*, rather than just emulators.

Re: Gamecube SD card adaptor/reader
There is a way to alter a Virtual Console download so that you can use alternative ROMs with the official emulators--at the very least, someone was able to play the N64 version of Goldeneye on the Wii, albeit with some issues concerning framerate and saving.DaMadFiddler wrote:The N64 program is so slow as to be worthless, and I can't seem to get the TG16 program to run Dracula X.

Re: Gamecube SD card adaptor/reader
Firmware updates have supposedly broken that method, though. Also, we are back to the base problem: it takes up space on the system. I'd just buy all the games I wanted on VC (well...the ones that are available) if it weren't for the fact that there isn't anywhere close to enough storage. Homebrew Channel apps run off an SD card, so I don't have to worry about downloaded games competing for space with my game saves.az_bont wrote:There is a way to alter a Virtual Console download so that you can use alternative ROMs with the official emulators--at the very least, someone was able to play the N64 version of Goldeneye on the Wii, albeit with some issues concerning framerate and saving.DaMadFiddler wrote:The N64 program is so slow as to be worthless, and I can't seem to get the TG16 program to run Dracula X.
