Grandia II: Buggy Edition

Post by DaMadFiddler »

Grandia II is one of the few JRPGs I've enjoyed enough to play all the way through. I recently introduced my girlfriend, who's a bit of an RPG fanatic, to the game. (She's fighting the final boss as I type this, in fact). However, my Dreamcast collection was stolen last Feburary (to make a long story short), and rather than re-buy everything *again*, I just got the PS2 ports of the games I really wanted.

As she's played through the game, I've noticed a LARGE number of graphical glitches that I don't remember seeing when I played the game on Dreamcast. Characters' textures will occasionally disappear in battle sequences, some spell effects (anything that has a large circle on the ground) don't get drawn in correctly at first, ground textures sometimes wobble, and there's noticeable slowdown in some towns.

Am I just misremembering the game, or are these problems unique to the PS2 port? Has anyone else played both versions?

Aaah Grandia and Skies motivated me to buy orignal cd's as the pirate cd's got stuck at critical points in the game.

I am the only one in Pakistan to have successfully beaten these 2 games, sadly my copy of skies still gives me trouble as it occassionally freezes when you are in the layer of the guy who had a crush on Aika.

Though I never played it, I remember reading that the PS2 port was buggy as hell, which knocked the review scores down a bit.

What a great game though. It might have been the first JRPG I played to completion, mainly because the battle system was so good. The only thing I disliked were some of the cliche anime-esque plot points.

Try the PC version. Seriously.

Installed. Played for a minute. Uninstalled.

Well since I had to travel to United States buy an orignal copy, bring it back and beat it.

I bought Grandia ll 3 times and all of them got stuck at the same place (from diffrent stores) hence I concluded if nobody had a working copy they couldn't beat it ;).

I'm not sure if I ever got my PC version working. I tried lots of things back in the day but it wouldn't get past the intro. I'm glad I only dropped $5 on it. I eventually bought the DC version off of Veggita2099.

Wow, I guess I'm still better off than I could have been :P

At this point, it's just not worth shelling out for *another* Dreamcast just to get slightly better version of games I've already beaten. I was kind of sad to lose Power Stone 2 and Under Defeat, though.

Just be on the lookout, maybe you'll get lucky and get one for free or close to it. I got my second DC for $14.

Of course... I don't think I've played my DC in like 6 months. Hmm.

I tried playing the PC version after playing the DC version, not really buggy just graphically inferior.
