007: do you trust Activision?
Activison, As they are making the next bond game, based off of both casino royale and QoS. Only really good bond game I ever played of course was goldeneye on n64. When TWINE came out for n64 later on I was pretty dispointed, was not a terrible game, but it was not goldeneye. I have Agent under fire for my xbox because I used it to mod it, that was the only reason I bought it though. I hated the game otherwise. Every Bond game has been pure and utter garbage, thanks of course to EA and their whoring of titles. Though I am not sure what really to say about From Russia with love. I think it was a 3rd person shooter though, anyone have anything to say about that one?
Anyways, I have watched a few videos online and downloaded a trailer from the marketplace and this game looks a bit promising. It is a FPS, though it does seem to do some gears of war hiding behind walls stuff. I hope that is not the majority of the game and they do more like in perfect dark zero and just have it as a feature. I am excited about multiplayer also, as it looks to be a bit squad based so i'll have to see.
on a side note, I think i'll preorder it with gamestop but not pick it up until I have a good amount of cash on me. Only reason I am interested in preordering is cause they give you a download code for the first map pack to download for free when it comes out in JAN.
Anyone have any thoughts or opinions if they think the game looks good or if Activision will do better with the bond IP than EA did.

The only 007 game I cared about was Goldeneye, and not because it was 007, but because it was a damn good game. I movies bored me, so I don't care about the franchise itself. If QoS is a good game, I'll play it, but if it sucks it's no skin off my back.

I loved GoldenEye...because the split-screen multiplayer was fucking fantastic for it's time. The single player campaign was good, but it wasn't the reason that I'll always have fond memories of the game. Considering any multiplayer is bound to be online in this new game, I'm not really interested.
On a side note, GoldenEye has aged terribly

Re: 007: do you trust Activision?
yea, mind you what kept me playing goldeneye long after was the hacking scene was superb. So many things were unlocked and found. Hell the code that finally unlocked that rough test level citadel was over 10,000 lines long. It is pretty cool that you can modify the rom and make your own levels and there is 4 player co op in the main game. It's too bad Rare didn't get to release their port on live arcade, sadly I dont think that will ever seen its ways into our hands.
Everyone had an N64 and goldeneye, hook up four controllers and it was a fucking party. I compare memories of 4player goldeneye to my very first LAN experience with 16 people playing Halo.

on the subject of goldeneye, and how i brought up goldeneye hacking. Here is the brilliance of subdrags editor. fan made single player levels, this one is based using the multiplayer only level complex.

here is a trailer for the editor

as far as development goes, goldeneye has aged very well. But control wise (even when using the two controller set up) it's a pain. AI is pretty cheap too.

I don't think the multiplayer has aged super well (played it 4 player a few months ago), but the single player campaign is still very fun. With the exception of those outdoor snow levels, which I ALWAYS hated. On a side note, GoldenEye has aged terribly

I agree. While the controls may have been somewhat acceptable back then, I absolutely can not stand them today. I think thats one of the main reasons that hinders me from picking it up again and having some fun.BoneyCork wrote:On a side note, GoldenEye has aged terribly

Re: 007: do you trust Activision?
I have thought about loading it up in an emulator and trying out how the controls do when mapped appropriately to a xbox360 controller. I fear it still wont work right in that the sensitivity will be just miserably unable to adapt to the controller. A long with some buttons needing to be actual pressure sensitive when they were not on the n64.

Re: 007: do you trust Activision?
It's not so much that, it's the shittiness of having no reticle when in normal aim, and having to stop there, press a button, and aim through the sights. TimeSplitters 2 had a much better example of the system, but it is still very clunky in comparison with regular FPS's.Nico0020 wrote:I have thought about loading it up in an emulator and trying out how the controls do when mapped appropriately to a xbox360 controller. Re: 007: do you trust Activision?
Do I think Activision can do better than EA? Absolutely. Do I trust them? More than some other companies out there, I consider Activision to better a little bit better than EA. If I have the choice, I would pick Nintendo or Free Radical to produce the game. No 007 will ever achieve what Goldeneye did. Not only will it be the best bond game ever, it is also one of the the best games created in my opinion.

Re: 007: do you trust Activision?
well by using the dual controller system, afai remember, you can use twin sticks so you dont have to use the classic style gameplay. So you look with the left controller joystick, and then move with the right controller stick. (which works for me cause I have always been a southpaw player) Though I dont think you always have your reticle on screen sadly. But that at least gives you free range to look and aim without stopping to do so.Code-Red wrote:It's not so much that, it's the shittiness of having no reticle when in normal aim, and having to stop there, press a button, and aim through the sights. Re: 007: do you trust Activision?
There were a lot of garbage James Bond games after Goldeneye (which is still fun, but I agree doesn't quite hold up). However, EA did manage to spit out one good Bond game in my opinion: Everything or Nothing. It was a little simple, but it was fun to play, it was polished, and it felt like a Bond movie.

Re: 007: do you trust Activision?
well I have been playing QoS, the multiplayer is lame but it does have facility from Goldeneye/Perfect Dark. So far I am enjoying the game the only qualms I have is it does have a lot of "hide behind this and shoot out at people" ala gears of war style and you dont have health in the game. I dont know if that is how the Call of Duty games are, but I can't stand where you don't have definite health, it's just if you get shot a few times at once. If I keep the game after I finish it I dunno, it depends on the replay-ability on the harder difficulties. I just want another bond game that is really a FPS and not based on a bunch of gimmicks.

Re: 007: do you trust Activision?
Final verdict:
Just finished the game, though it can really be finished in about 2 sittings. The game is fun, the best bond game since Goldeneye, though thats not saying much as most of em were garbage. The game is heavily based around a cover system. The multiplayer was completely lame, but I never cared for call of duty style. You dont even get to play as bond characters in multiplayer, how dumb. The train level was one of my favorites. The game is just not worth keeping though, no extra objectives in higher difficulties, and the achievements are nothing hard to go after. So this one is getting traded in to entertainmart tomorrow towards me getting a DS again. Good game, def worth a RENT.

Re: 007: do you trust Activision?
I guess I'm the only one who likes Goldeneye's controls a lot. To this day I still think dual shock is a pretty shit control system - I've grown used to it after so many years, but I'm convinced now it will never feel completely natural to me. It always feels like they're trying to copy mouse+kb, but can never do it very well. Goldeneye just aimed at something totally different.
Goldeneye's gameplay is really built around its controls - the way enemies react and move and the level designs lend them to a combination of quick movements, then paused moments for aimed shots. I also particularly like its extremely quick "tilt" style controls (where you're aiming, and can pop in and out of sight with the c-buttons).
I seem to be alone in my opinion though. Oh well.

Re: 007: do you trust Activision?
I totally agree with above statement. Goldeneye had awesome controls and were much more advanced then anything during its time.
