Cheap mod chips?
Trying to find a cheap way to get some PSX chips. Anyone know of any deals for Wii chips as well?

Re: Cheap mod chips?
The cheapest way in general is probably to flash your own. The actual chips used for PS1 mods (PIC12F508) are very cheap these days. In even modest quantities (e.g. 25 pcs) they go for around 60c each. AFAIK there are no free Wii chip codes supporting the current drive controller, but for older ones there are several free codes out there that run on only slightly more expensive chips.

Re: Cheap mod chips?
If you need some for the original playstation, you can just use a programmable microchip. Quick google gave me this http://folk.uio.no/kyrreaa/psx_modchips.htm
You used to be able to get free samples from microchip.com as well, so you could order the 12c508 from them. They may still do samples, but I haven't tried in a few years now. Pic programmers can be made super cheaply for a serial or parallel port. Google has plenty of schematics.

The 12C508 is discontinued. You can still buy it from distributors, but the 12F508 is cheaper. Modchip code reportedly works on the 12F with no changes, though I don't know whether it is supported by the same programmers.

I'm curious about this too. I have a 9000 model -- does that leave me "dry" by any means?
