Old games that would make great remakes?
Pretty much like the topic says. The type of remake I am thinking of is along the style of say Metroid Zero (as in improved graphics, sound, new content, improved features, and improved story)
First two games that come to mind for me are the original Metal Gear and Castlevania 2. I would love to see a remake of Metal Gear that would have some of the following:
Save Support (those passwords are way too long)
Key Cards automatically equiped. Seriously how many times have you had to go through every one of them to open a door?
Better hints on where to go next.
Then to top it off maybe throw an extra enemy base in there and a new item or 2.
Castlevania 2 just needs better hints on what you need to do next.

Not sure about a remake, but I'd dearly love to see a Shatterhand sequel.
The games most deserving of remakes are early 3-D efforts from the PS1 era; they look terrible by today's standards. It worked wonders for the Resident Evil series, MGS and Tomb Raider. There are others in the same vein that are solid games but suffer from ugly visuals.

I really disagree on this one. OoT really does not need to be remade... the N64 had anti-aliasing... the PSX did not, hence the disgusting jaggies at such low resolutions.Covar wrote:like OoT.impetus wrote:Not sure about a remake, but I'd dearly love to see a Shatterhand sequel.

Plus OoT (I think) has held up quite well over time. Yes, it looks old, but I can't imagine it getting any better with TP graphics.

I really enjoyed the first jet moto, which i wouldn't mind playing it with better sound and graphics, maybe some online play.
Punch out, or a game with the same controls and same game play.
I wouldn't mind seeing chrono trigger with better graphics and sound.
Adventure Island, with a wacky death match mode.

Re: Old games that would make great remakes?
I was just referring to the graphics really. most 3d games just don't age gracefully. still its been a while since i played OoT, maybe i should get it for the VC. after all Mario64 has aged well, where as goldeneye makes my eyes melt. maybe its a nintendo thing? those guys are awesome.MulletMan13 wrote:I really disagree on this one. Re: Old games that would make great remakes?
I'd like to see how Metal Gear 1 and 2 would play out if they were remade into 3D games on the Snake Eater engine or something along those lines. MGS4 will probably be the last in the series but I hope they don't rule out remakes and prequels

Crash Bandicoot 1 and or 2. Please make em, and throw em on Playstation's store, or XBLA.

Re: Old games that would make great remakes?
Ya know, that gives me a thought. I'd actually play through Resident Evil 1-3 if they were built into the same engine (camera) as RE 4.Lunchbox wrote:I'd like to see how Metal Gear 1 and 2 would play out if they were remade into 3D games on the Snake Eater engine or something along those lines. Re: Old games that would make great remakes?
Mortal Kombat Trilogy. I really hate how they changed the flying kicks/punches in Ultimate MK3. If MKT had more content (specially from MK1, there's lots absent), selectable gameplay mechanics from MK2 and MK3, plus a new gameplay and AI that's actually fair and balanced, I'd be very happy.
Also Doom, Doom II and Doom 64. Doom³ isn't a remake, it's a reboot of the franchise (like Quake 2 isn't a sequel to Quake).

Interstate '76 (I think it would be cool if the levels were slightly more populated than the original, and if you had the ability to get out of the car. Sort of a 70's themed Grand Theft Twisted Metal in the desert.)
Double Dragon
Strider
Silkworm (Not sure how this would work...but I've been waiting for a sequal for years)
Mechwarrior
Metal Storm (A 3D Mech game with the ability to reverse gravity...sounds like fun to me)

Metal Storm is incredible. It would make a great remake as long as they kept the side-scrolling aesthetic instead of turning it into "Prey".Vlad Tepes wrote:Metal Storm (A 3D Mech game with the ability to reverse gravity...sounds like fun to me)

Re: Old games that would make great remakes?
I mainly just had 2d games in mind when I made this thread, but there have been some interesting suggestions. Star Tropics 3D would be great!
I think most N64 games are really fine. There was a lot of UGLY PS1/Saturn games though that would look good cleaned up.
