Endless Game of Tetris

Post by DaMadFiddler »

...So I stuck Tetris DS in my system after breakfast today, since I haven't played for a while. Set it for "Endless" on normal mode, and started playing around noon. The next thing I know, it's 3:30 in the afternoon, and my eyes are watering a bit, so I put the game on standby and go do something else. Come back in an hour or so, plug in another ninety minutes of gameplay. This game still isn't over.

Now I understand why the game defaults to a level 20 cutoff. I don't think this will end until I'm too tired / distracted to play well, or I get bored and intentionally throw the game.

Currently, I'm at level 550 with 20.3 million points. I'm going to try and see if the counter maxes out at 99.9 million, though I may do something stupid and screw up before then (the line counter maxed out at 999, and I think the level counter will too).

What's the longest game you've had in Tetris?

Level 5 on the original NES Tetris.

I suck at puzzle games.

:o I couldn't even imagine playing Tetris for more than 10 minutes, let alone 6 hours.

Plugged in another hour or so. It's now up to level 867, with 32.1 million points. I think this is going to be an ongoing thing...my goal (so long as I don't screw up) is to max out the point counter. At 1/3 of the way there, this is looking entirely possible.

I can't play tetris for more than just a few minutes before I'm bored out of my mind. I've had a few fairly long Meteos games, but it gets too frantic to be able to play for extended periods of time. It's exhausting...

I just can't play fast-paced puzzle games. My brain just doesn't opperate quick enough to keep up with them.

I play NES Nintendo (not Tengen) version of Tetris everyday on my GBS SP via PocketNES. I usually start at level 15 or higher, trying to only make tetrises for score. Sometimes I wonder why I play it because it doesn't relax me. It's rather stressful.

Here's what we're at so far:

That's level 921, 34.6 million points, and the line counter maxed out *long* ago. At this point, I'd say it's been between six and seven hours, cumulatively. My goal for today is to max out the level counter...I'm hoping to reach 99 million points around Tuesdayish, and see if that really is the maximum possible score.

After reading this topic, I jumped to GameFAQ to cheat and find the answer. I won't bother telling you, though, because I would hate to ruin the suspense for you. :)

Well, I did a little more. The line and level counters are both topped out, and the point counter is sitting a little over 37.7 million. If the game really does max out at 99.9 million points, I think I'm going to forfeit at that point. No point in going on, and that way I make sure it gets saved to the high score table.

I could play Tetris all day long if someone fed me, sheltered me, and cleaned up after me.
It's thinking...

I remember on TechTV once (might've been 'Call for Help'), they had a guy on who developed a robot that could play Tetris. He said that it's impossible to have a game of Tetris go on forever, because eventually you get the blocks in an order that won't let you clear any more lines.

Not to discourage you Fiddler, I just thought it'd be interesting to share.

Normally I'd agree, TyBO, but Tetris DS uses the "new rules" in which a piece won't lock into place until you stop moving it. This makes the game considerably easier.

Also, as of this post, I'm up to 42.3 million.
