Looking at software exploit for Xbox, help appreciated

Post by Lunchbox » Fri Apr 30, 2004 12:49 pm

I'm currently looking into using an exploit to mod my xbox. I chose the exploit because I have the tools and i'm ready to go. I use xbox live so i hope i don't get banned or anything, and i dont have the cash for a modchip with a switch right now.

I have an Action Replay and i am going to get mechassault in the next few days. I heard that the actual exploit is a mechassault gamesave and I can load up evox through MA. I have a few questions before I proceed:

1. Is Evox the best choice for emulators? If so, where could I get the MA save?
2. If i'm using the exploit, do I have to install anything, or can i just leave it as a gamesave and load up MA whenever I want to use it?
3. Can i run emus and apps from a CD?

thanks guys

Lots of info here on various explloits, think theres a link to the ma save there, if not I or another probably still have it laying around. You can run emu's etc.. from a cd/dvd however you'll need a tool like simplexiso to make an image the xbox will recognise as a game when the discs put in, with evox once on the dash hit start dvd to boot up whatever discs in. Nearly forgot to put more than 1 thing on a cd/dvd successfully use isocraxton, I use it myself, nice menu's, simple to use

ok i dowloaded isocraxtion so i'm going to use that. Do you have any recommendations for which emus I should look into (i.e. which are closest to full speed, good sound, etc.)? I'd like to get emus for SNES, NES, N64, Genesis, and maybe GBA.

For N64 the best bet atm is Surreal64 (its basically a compilation of UltraHLE, 1964 & PJ64 ports all tied together with a nice frontend, its run most things I've thrown at it the 1964 & PJ64 bits are the most compatible in it, note if you want to cheat with UltraHLE in it edit the ini file before burning/putting on hd to activate the cheats like on the PC one). XSnes9X is a good Snes one, think its the one I use, mainly been on mame lately. For Nes stuff theres a port of FCE thats quite nice and for GBA stuff theres a VBA port (actually theres more than 1 gba emu just cant recall the other atm). NeoGenesis is the one I use for my genesis needs, it also runs sega cd titles and 32X stuff at full speed which is good. MAMEOX is a good un to go for as well as its the most updated of the 2 mames for the xbox, no virtual memory support in it though so rom size is a factor, it'll run metal slug 1 & 2 happily though. For later metal slugs or just any bigger game thats supported use the Kawaks port which does use virtual memory and so can load up the bigger stuff. Thats most of the ones I use, got a few others installed on it but havent used em too much. #Xbins is the place to go for them, all info at Xbins you may want to check out some of the ports as well like Quake 2, Dooms, Rick Dangerous etc..

Don't bother with DGen, gbaX or nesterX as the other emulators that you have chosen outdo them all. But, I would reccomend the following:

pcsxbox - PSone emulator
UAEX - Amiga emulator
Xbox Media Center - truly awesome media player
GentooX - an Xbox version of the popular Linux release

That's about all I can think of at the moment.

They have to be in BIN/CUE format. Or at least they used to have to be, becuase I managed to load up a few CloneCD games just fine. They can be on CD-Rs or DVD-Rs if you want, but they have to be as disc images. The driver for reading actual PSone games can only go at a maximum speed of about 2.5kb/sec :|.

It will play just about anything and everything. I haven't had a single video yet that it won't play.

FBA/FBA-XXX
Kawa-X
Mame-X/MameoX
UX64 (Killer Instict 1& 2)

jeez....never spent time in an arcade? o_O

Hugo
NeopopX
PxHDD
Beats of Rage and the mods (just extract the .pak file from the mods, rename the xbe tag and put the default.xbe and the bor.pak in the same folder....voila!) Better than burning a new copy for the DC.
Rise of the Triads

I recomend having both XBMC and XBMP. I found that xbmc had trouble playing 3 of my files (1 asf 2 wmv) but xbmp would play them. it could just be my current codecs (although the xbmc should be more up to date o_O )

you may also want to try out different dashboards. Evo-x is nice if you want a no frills type of dash. Here is my preferred list
1. Unleash-X
2. MediaXMenu
3.Evo-X
4.Avalaunch
5.Nexgen

I've yet to try out THC , maybe i'll try it on my original 10 gig hd.\

If you have any questions feel free to IM me at safetyinnimbus.

Wasn't the scanning just a rumor? Anyways, just to be safe i'm going to have all my apps and emus on CDs and i'm not going to swap in a new HD. All that will be on the HD is the MA save with evox. I've been told i'll be safe from being banned, and just to make sure i'm going to play out the rest of my XBL trial with the exploits on and see how that goes. If i'm not banned then i'll renew

You could also have a look at one of my packages HERE (same name)

They work with the MA gamesave and install both fonts and audio for ultra safety, you can even use Live! with a little work.. As long as you disable the fonts using the options availiable ;)
