The Dreamcast turns 21 today!

Post by Calavera »

21 years ago was 9/9/99 the North American release date of the Sega Dreamcast. I still play a DC game every now and again on Redream but I got rid of my last Dreamcast several years ago. I've still got a few controllers and all my VMUs but no system.

What are some of your best memories with the Dreamcast? I've got several. I have many memories of sitting in my old room playing the DC on my Gateway VX1120 CRT monitor using the VGA box. It looked amazing at the time. Skies of Arcadia, Grandia II and Shenmue 1 and 2 were all great to play through. One of my favorite DC games was Headhunter. I thought it was amazing at the time. The atmosphere was great, I had so much fun with that game.

Then we have the emulators for Dreamcast. The main one I used was NesterDC. I thought it was amazing to be able to play NES games right on my TV just like the original system. After the 128-bit era I got out of console gaming and am now strictly PC. Of that era I'd say the Dreamcast is my favorite console with the Xbox coming in a close second.

Happy Birthday Dreamcast!

I have a lot fond memories and I will be playing it more frequently from now on. I really enjoyed watching video reviews and then seeing the games match what was shown. I've oiled my gd-rom so it's much quieter, but I still love hearing the drive squeak when it accepts a disc.

For some reason, I always think of the final level of Bangai-O when I try to think of greatest accomplishments. I remember playing that level over and over just to see how many watermelons I could get. I recently gave in and looked up a guide to an MDK-2 level I was stuck at (8-C) so I'll be adding this difficult game to my list of accomplishments.

I think my favourite Dreamcast memory (and ongoing experience) is playing with my nieces and nephew.

"This is a Dreamcast disc and is for use only on a Dreamcast unit. Playing this disc on a hi-fi or other audio equipment could cause serious damage to its speakers. Please stop this disc now."

p.s. DCEmu should really add "Dreamcast" to its spell checker.

The best disc to do that with is Skies of Arcadia. It is the only way to hear the character's voices. There are no voices in-game but they voice the whole hi-fi warning thing.

Wow, the day came and went... Didn't even remember it...
But great times buried in these forums.

I think my favourite thing about the Dreamcast is that it brought me to this forum. Such a big part of my teenage years and while it's very quiet these days, I'm glad it's still here.

I still have the Dreamcast hooked up to an old CRT Tv.
Oddly the TV and the console haven't been turned on in 3 years.
It is a phenom how a diverse sect of humans got attached to a plastic box.

I loathe the decades I spent on this forum.
More on that later.
