then, 1.0-2 registerd don't work on no LCD VMU?
if so, I think all version (1.0 and 1.0-2 share/registerd) don't work too.
i wll buy in a feature and check.

GUS samples/midi

Post by cleaner »

Does the latest version (1.0-2) come with GUS samples?
I burned my copy by burning REGISTERD.BIN(1ST_READ.BIN), romdisk, and my rott dir.

Is romdisk for the GUS samples? I hear midi in the game but I don't think it sounds like GUS.

Anyway, great job bero!

Seems not to work for me. I don't have shareware now. Need to do some testing to see if my cd works with official LCD vmu
Many thanks!!!

I've tested the Deluxe Edition of The hunt begins. 2 memory cards in my controller, 1 original VMU with LCD display and a 3rd party card. No probs.
Controller works great, but i can't leave the map with it.
Mouse support is excellent, even the win32 port doesn't have such a smooth and fast mouse controlling. Keyboard support as good as the first version. Great. Thanks bero.

This is for Shareware.
For the Deluxe Edition or often called Lasersoft Edition:
If you downloaded it from 3D Realms you should rename huntbgn2.rtl to huntbgin.rtl and huntbgn2.rtc to huntbgin.rtc !

Root
|
|_Ip.bin (for make an selfboot image)
|_timitidy.cfg
|_1st_read.bin (renamed shareware.bin)
|
|_rott (directory)
|...|_demo1_3.dmo
|...|_demo2_3.dmo
|...|_demo3_3.dmo
|...|_demo4_3.dmo
|...|_huntbgin.rtc (not sure if really needed, this are the Comm-Bat Levels)
|...|_huntbgin.rtl
|...|_huntbgin.wad
|...|_sdl.dll
|...|_sdlmixer.dll
|
|_mini (directory)
.........|_****.pat (Soundpatches, you can take the ones of the previous version.)

This is for Registered.

It is undocumented and not tested but 1.0-2 works any directory name and multi directory

for example,

laser
+ lasersoft datas
regsiter
+ registererd datas
supercd
+ supercd datas

then tiny menu appeared to select laser, register, supercd

Uhm. And i've burned 3 different CDs.
Next thing should be userlevel support. I want to play Extreme ROTT.

Should it be:

Ip.bin
timitidy.cfg
1st_read.bin
+laser

or

Ip.bin
timitidy.cfg
1st_read.bin
+rott
..+laser

So it's something wrong with my cd. I haven't inserted the timidity.cfg for this version(it's not needed with the romdisk.bin at root, neither the mini directory with the patches, i think). Mine sounds OK. Also i have in /rott some extra files that perhaps i need to delete and haven't inserted sdl.dll and sdlmixer.dll into /rott but the game works perfect. Too many different things, need to build another cd.

Many thanks guys.

this release's control's and kinda weird. here just a thought:

analog:
up- move foward
down- move back
left- move left
right- move right

dpad:
up- look up
down- look down
left/right- (whatever is important that isnt already occupied by a button already)

triggers:
left- open door
right- shoot

buttons:
start- goto main menu
a- run
b/x/y- (whatever is important that isnt already occupied by a button already, but is more important than what would be set as a dpad control)

this release i thought the controls were more confusing, thats just my idea on how id make it control easier. just a heads up...great job on the port bero, brings back the olden days :-P

@cybdmn: Are the DLL files really needed for the DC port???

@Bero: Does your port only work with the latest version (v1.3) or does it run older versions perfectly as well?

yes, it is same mini patch archived by genromfs included in kos.
only one change in timidity.cfg : add "/rd/mini" instead of "/cd/mini"

previous version read samples eacp play time. so samples must burn with game data.
current version read all samples at stating time. so disk can swapped

I don't have full version, so I don't know how to run user levels on PC.
in my view, rott don't have user level option such as -file <userlevel> or -game <userlevel>
to run user level, rename user level file to offisial level file name such as "darkwar.rtl"
is it right?

if PC DOS version runs
exteme (directory)
|...|_demo1_3.dmo
|...|_demo2_3.dmo
|...|_demo3_3.dmo
|...|_demo4_3.dmo
|...|_darkwar.rtc
|...|_darkwar.rtl <- renamed from exteme.rtl
|...|_darkwar.wad
then, DC version same thing.

timidty.cfg & patchdir is old way. use romdisk.

IP.BIN
ROMDISK
supercd
+ data...
exteme
+ data..
otheruserlevel
+ data..

or
IP.BIN
ROMDISK

rott (or anything else dirname)
+ supercd
+ data..
+ exteme
+ data..
+ other
+ data..

but I suggest you instead of make many costers, use disk swap.

DISK 1: burn for Dreamcast way.
IP.BIN
ROMDISK

DISK 2: burn for normal windows way. multisession to allow next burn
supercd
+ data...
exteme
+ data..
otheruserlevel
+ data..

The way to run user levels in the PC game is like this:

1) Run SETUP.EXE.
2) Select the "Use Modified Stuff" option in the menu that comes up.
3) a) If you want to load a different RTL file, pick "Choose Alternate Game Levels" and select the RTL of your choice on the list.
.......b) If you want to load a different RTC file, pick "Choose Alternate Battle Levels" and select the RTC of your choice on the list.
.......c) If you want to load a different RTS file, pick "Choose Remote Player Sounds" and....... nyeh, you know the drill.
4) When selecting a file on the list, make sure you press SPACE on the selected file. This will make a tick appear to the left of the name, signifying that it has been picked and will be loaded up in the game.
5) When you've finished picking stuff, press ESC twice to get back to the main menu. Then select "Save And Run ROTT". Voila.

Setup.exe saves the "Use modified Stuff" data to a temp file called ROTT.ROT. This file is created when you choose "Save and Run ROTT" from setup.exe and is deleted as soon as the game starts. Here's what it looks like....

Code: Select all

; Rise of the Triad Game Information File
 ; (c) 1994
 PHONENUMBER ~
 REMOTESOUNDFILE ~
 GAMELEVELFILE ~
 COMMBATLEVELFILE ~

The ~ means not specified (default). To use modified files, replace it with the file name (ie. GAMELEVELFILE DARKWAR.RTL). Game level files are any *.rtl file and combat level files are any *.rtc or *.rtl file. The shareware version can't load modified levels.

I hope this helps

I must be missing something but I have burned this two ways:

1. Put all FULL VERSION files in a directory called ROTT, and put the Dreamcast ROTT files in the root, it boots, said it was loading, then I got a black screen.

2. Burned all files to root, got the same ol bull.

So where do my files need to be, how do I need to burn this, or is this info buried somewhere in the last 5 pages here?

Is it possible to have both 1.0 and 1.0-2 (both sw and reg) on the same DreamInducer CD? Which files need to go on the root on in a directory etc?
