Re: Troubles with 2D texture transfers from main ram to vram

In what way does it look garbled? If it looks like the pixels have been shuffled around, then it's probably a twiddling issue. If you're only getting a single triangle showing up, or if you have a triangular chunk missing, you're probably submitting the vertices in the wrong order. Since you're subm...

Re: Troubles with 2D texture transfers from main ram to vram

First thing that comes to mind - your texture sizes are probably wrong. The PVR only supports textures where both width and height are a power of two. From what I remember of BoR, the screen size is something like 320x240 or thereabouts. If that's the case, you're allocating texture memory for a 320...

Re: Quake 2 w/sound enabled?

I would look to downsample all necessary media from the Quake 2 demo, which should be legal to redistribute, along with a guide on how to down size the files from the full game for those that would want a complete port. Be careful. Just because the demo can be freely redistributed, that does not me...

Re: Buying 3 old skool servers. Help.

For Quake 1 - did you have any particular version in mind? I doubt you'd be able to run the original binaries directly on any modern Linux system (unless you know exactly what you're doing), so you would either have to compile it yourself, or use a more modern version. Even then, Quake or Quakeworld?

Re: Smileys review of new super mario bros wii...

Yeah, in Europe it's definitely not that unusual. Nintendo never had the domination they once had over here in Europe. As one measure of comparison, to date I've never known anyone IRL who owned a Master System in its original lifespan. As another piece of meaningless anecdotal evidence, I had an S...

Re: Loading from /cd and /pc

1. Will it be this slow when using a CD? No. 2. Is it cauesd by big images (1024 x 512)? No. 3. Is it caused by the music (1.2mb)? No. 4. How can I fix this? Tricky... Basically, the DCLoad connection is kind of slow. As henzenmann said, with a serial cable, you're obviously limited by the speed of...

Re: Loading an Image with PVR

The image drawing function looks OK. Unless there's some subtle bug there that I'm not seeing, it should work just fine. As far as I remember, pvr_mem_available returns the number of bytes available. A value of 168 would suggest that you've basically run out of video memory somehow. The DC has 8MB o...

Re: Smith-Cotton High - "Science is Religion".

It doesn't really help that the definition of the term "theory" has entirely different meanings in math and science, and that neither of them quite overlap with the colloquial meaning (which is basically an idea, possibly supported by anecdotal evidence and nothing more). Scientific theori...

Re: RAID Questions

The only way to know would be to benchmark it. In theory, they should be about equal.

Using Windows 7's striping, you'd have to have at least part of Windows on a non-striped area of the drive, so chances are it'd probably be slower.

Oh yeah... all of those that I mentioned above require PHP 5. I think some of them require 5.1 rather than 5.2, but all of them require PHP 5.

Re: Free Webmail Interface

Any idea why Roundcube doesn't work? As far as I can see, it should work just fine. There might be some tweaks you can make to get it to work. Atmail is OK. The free versions is decent enough, with a comparable feature set to Roundcube. My ISP uses the older Perl-based commercial version, which seem...

Re: RAID Questions

Assuming that there's a RAID option available on your motherboard (it's often turned off on lower-end boards, so they can charge more for the boards with it enabled), be aware that your chipset doesn't actually support hardware RAID - it emulates it using a combination of BIOS drivers, and Windows d...

Re: Arctic Icecap to Dissapear in 20-30 years

Yes, I very well may be insane, but part of the reason we're in a bind now is because someone found out that coal, then oil and gas were fantastic for generating energy and nobody questioned it. They were better than the existing alternatives. In the case of things like petrol, the alternative was ...

Re: Arctic Icecap to Dissapear in 20-30 years

I dunno, I tend to think global warming is mostly overblown as a sign of human arrogance. We're such a large part of this planet that we've been able to spoil it in just a few hundred years... No, the planet will be fine. There's no way we could really damage the planet itself, and I doubt that we ...

According to the church’s Web site, members will also burn “Satan's music such as country, rap, rock, pop, heavy metal, western, soft and easy, southern gospel, contemporary Christian, jazz, soul (and) oldies. So.... that'd be everything, then. I wonder how toxic burning polycarbonate ...

Re: Installing new router on friend's PC

Why is his machine running ICS? That's not needed if you actually have a router - you can just connect all of your machines to the router, and they should all get internet access. Chances are his existing box probably isn't a router - it's probably a modem (or a router configured to act as a modem),...

Re: 2D Tile Editors

I did want to do a release of some kind, yes. The general idea was to have a fairly simple, cross-platform 2D game engine. The game parts are then written in a scripting language, most likely Lua, using a component system. The engine comes with a set of components, but you can write new ones (and sh...

There's nothing much that I'd want to release at the moment. It's also probably a bit too programmer-centric for non-coders to be able to use straight off at the moment.
