Re: Broadband adapter
Great! Thanks a bunch. Good thing you mentioned the setting non-blocking - that's the first thing the Doom networking does after creating the socket - set it to non-blocking. You mentioned it getting the IP address in the init - what's the easiest way to find that IP address to display it? I ...

Re: I think linux might have "broken through" with ubuntu
All the major distros have Live CDs - just try a few and see which appeals most. It's easy, only taking some time to check each one out. I tried ZenWalk just the other day. Not good enough to make me switch from Xubuntu (which also has a Live CD), but it was nice to try.

Re: I think linux might have "broken through" with ubuntu
Maybe you're just unlucky - I've got seven different systems running Xubuntu 9.04 without issue, including my PS3. The only system I have that DOESN'T run 9.04 is an old laptop whose LCD is affected by a bug in recent versions of Xorg. It works fine with a version of Ubuntu that uses the older Xorg....

Re: Doom for Dreamcast v1.1.6
It doesn't work... I'm looking into the BBA usage right now. Once I get that worked out, I'll post an update that also fixes the 50 Hz OSK problem.

Re: Broadband adapter
Well, how about the KOS networking? I know from other threads it just does UDP, but that's all that's needed anyway. Are you aware of other DC stuff with source that uses networking I can use as an example? Otherwise I'm gonna have to dig through all the source... which is always a pain. :( ...

Re: Broadband adapter
Hmm - sounds like a homebrew is needed for setting this info. I'm using lwip, using net_init(); lwip_kos_init(); To init things as the "example" shows. Will that "auto-configure" the BBA? If so, then is there a lwip way of getting the local IP address? The example simply inits th...

Broadband adapter
Okay, I got my BBA and it works fine with PlanetWeb 3.0. The issue now is how to use it in the homebrew... first, it doesn't seem that you get any ISP settings in the flashrom with PW3. This if (flashrom_get_ispcfg(&cfg) < 0) { printf("Couldn't find any IP-related config info!\n"); spr...
Re: CHART
That chart doesn't REALLY show acceptance of Evolution, it shows how conformist the nation's citizens are. How willing to compromise their own beliefs in order to appear to fit in. "The nail that sticks up is hammered down." Conversely, that's why the US is so low on the chart - American's...

Re: Help with DC disk (ubuntu/linux)
With wodim, you should use the "dev=/dev/whatever" syntax. If you only have one CD drive, you shouldn't even need to do that. On the version of cdrecord included in older Ubuntu releases the "dev=/dev/whatever" syntax works, but I don't think it ever worked with the official cdr...

Re: Doom for Dreamcast v1.1.6
Well, a quick look around shows Doom Legacy has split screen, and the XBox Live version has it. Someone also worked on a mod to Chocolate Doom, but gave up on it.
So it looks like Doom Legacy might be the version to work on for multi-player without networking. I'll have to look it over.

Re: Help with DC disk (ubuntu/linux)
Thanks for the help, everybody. I downloaded the trial version of nero for linux, I'm going to try burning another copy of a snes emulator for dc. I also got a weird error through terminal by typing "wodim --devices", it said wodim: No such file or directory. Cannot open SCSI driver! For ...

Re: Doom for Dreamcast v1.1.6
Split screen 2 or 4 players? That's not part of Doom. Some conversions do allow you to run multiple instances of the game on the same computer, but that requires even more memory and CPU power... memory and CPU power the DC doesn't have. Split screen multi-player is pretty rare, especially for FPS ...

Re: Help with DC disk (ubuntu/linux)
I got Nero for linux some time back, so I just use cdi2nero on .cdi files, then burn them with Nero. As for cdrecord/wodim, don't use the old SCSI device syntax, use "dev=/dev/cdrom". I've never seen a distro without at least a symbolic link from /dev/cdrom to the cdrom. Ubuntu includes sy...

Re: Pirated Copies of Arkham Asylum Doom Batman to Gassy Death
Actually, Half Life 2 (single player mode) was pirated almost instantly as it was such a royal pain in the ass to install. I bought HL2, but used the pirated version because I couldn't get Steam working on the system I had at the time.

Re: Doom for Dreamcast v1.1.6
About $164 with shipping. Expensive, but the last three I've see all went for almost $250. The last "Buy It Now" BBA on eBay was $250 even, matching the only two stores I've ever found carrying the BBA. These things are seriously rare and expensive. I set my top bid at $160 (not counting s...

Re: Pirated Copies of Arkham Asylum Doom Batman to Gassy Death
Many apps do that deliberately. The category of apps distributed free that don't fully work unless you pay are known as "Crippleware". That's really all this is - unofficial Crippleware applied to a game. It's a good idea - it allows a person to play the game enough to decide if they wish ...

Re: I was Wondering when there will be a new Build Release
I think some folks are getting confused because you used "interpreter" for the entire emulation. Emulators use interpreters for different aspects of the emulation. The most common place is the CPU - you look at the machine code for the CPU in the emulated system and interpret it into what ...

Re: Doom for Dreamcast v1.1.6
I just won a BBA on eBay, so sometime next week I'll actually be able to test networking myself. :D You should be able to play anyone in the world, as long as you have their IP address. If you have more than one computer on the same IP address (I've got like six or seven here), use the port setting ...

Re: I was Wondering when there will be a new Build Release
As for the PS vs SNES emulation issues, the much bigger issue is that playstation emulation can be done at a much higher abstraction level, and a lot of work may be offloaded to the Dreamcast's 3D processor, as opposed to 2D stuff which has to be done mostly by the main processor. Kind of like old ...
