Re: Wii-U Pre-orders

Oh, you're one of THOSE  This is why we can't have nice things. Funny thing is that wasn't my original idea when I reserved it. But my financial situation has changed a little bit, and it'll be a lot easier to afford six months or so down the line. But I have no compunctions about doing it - ...

Re: Wii-U Pre-orders

I pre-ordered it and I'm going to sell my pre-order in a couple weeks. Probably make around $150. I'll get a Wii U when they're commonly available and the library is up to snuff. I got a Wii day one, which was kind of neat but it took a long time for the library to really make it worth it.

Re: The Witcher 2

I've been hearing the Witcher 2 will kill almost any moderate PC, even on lower settings (evidently running in low doesn't help that much). I just started playing the Witcher a few days ago (yay for the Steam summer sale) and am liking it so far, but am wary my PC may be unable to handle the sequel....

Re: Game collection sold for $1,225,599.99

Yeah, that's pretty incredible, I don't find the amount crazy at all either. I'd be curious to see an estimated market value for it pieced out, but a ton of that stuff is so rare I have no idea of the value. The complete Super Famicom collection has to be worth like $100k by itself, right? You can u...

Re: TechTalk: Past Failures Marvels Today

3D imaging predates the motion picture. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereoscope I've always thought that was pretty amazing. Another one is the fax machine. Dates back to the 1840s, and was in commercial use before the telephone was invented. I guess they aren't exactly failures, but it's pretty ne...

I will say I've found twitter to be a nice way of getting a customized news feed. I guess that's what RSS is supposed to be for, but whatever.

Re: Has anyone bought a vita?

My girlfriend bought one at launch. They're pretty cool devices - solid enough battery life, great screen, and the controls are much improved over the regular PSP (always hated the PSP disc, pretty fine with the Vita ministicks). Some good games, plays movies great, etc. There's a lot of cool downlo...

Re: New NES game: Nomolos - Storm the Catsle

Didn't realize this was out! Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to buy a copy soon. It doesn't look quite as polished as Battle Kid to me, but still worth a purchase. Think I'll buy it with the box, always had a soft spot for NES boxes even though the things fall apart so quickly.

Re: So, guess I've been here a while.

I wasn't here before the reset, but rather shortly after if memory serves. Dreamcast wasn't dead when I joined, but it was down to $50 so pretty damn close. Did learn a lot here, and honestly the appeal of playing NES games (and the incredibly low price point) was a major reason I ended up with a Dr...

So, today my gangrene finally took a turn for the worse and toe loss is now up to 4. Should I go to the doctor or just tough it out?

Yeah, not only does Garrus eventually come back in ME2, he gets the best character reintroduction anyone gets in the entire trilogy.

Re: Mass Effect 3

I liked how my internet went out, and since I have the From Ashes DLC, I couldn't play ME3 at all til it got fixed. Nice extra "feature" EA.

Re: Pier Solar And The Great Architects

Is it actually up there with greatest 16-bit RPGs of all time? Everyone gives it bonus points for being a "great accomplishment" or something, but I don't care about that. I can't shake the assumption that it's more of a $10 "pretty good" Steam title and the whole Genesis thing ...

Re: Xbox 720 GPU details

The one thing that'd be nice if they go the way of something like Steam is if they have sales like Steam does. But based on what I see of the prices on Xbox Live (completely ridiculous, disc copies are usually half the price) that's not going to happen. Basically the only reason I buy stuff on Steam...

Re: Xbox 720 GPU details

It's worth mentioning all we have so far is an "unnamed source" who provides literally zero details. It's a big deal to me though - it means I may skip the 720 entirely if it's true. A major part of what I like about console stuff is collection/older stuff.

Re: So Resident Evil 6... Not Excited?

The blended medium, the plot, the graphics. It was entirely new and innovative. Ever play the original Alone in the Dark? Quite a bit of the first RE feels cribbed from it (the type of puzzles, pre-rendered backdrops, control scheme, and elements of the music). The first RE game is one of my favori...

Hours put in for grad school

So I just started grad school. Looking at the workload got me thinking. I remember hearing for undergrad classes you were supposed to put in something like 2-3 hours for every credit hour of the class in a week, which I found to be ridiculously high for almost all my classes. For grad classes, I'm h...

Re: So what are you playing this winter?

I finally beat Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Pretty enjoyable, though I don't like the ending system or the execution. It's worth playing through and owning, especially now that it's already like half off. I just bought Saint's Row Double Pack. Going to beat the first game, then do the campaign of 2 co...
