Re: bug in strtof
True, Bluecrab. I was also recently made to appreciate the deeper implications of float vs double. float has six digits of decimal precision which is what you see in that demonstration. Perhaps changing the array to "double" and using m4 instead of m4-single-only option at user level might...

Re: Wiki feedback
From the very beginning I have been the desire to make some kind of Dreamcast history movie and this wiki would be useful.
Ours is quite the epic tale with plenty of drama with lots of interesting personalities, conflicts...

Happy 16th Birthday Dreamcast!
Thanks to Sega and the Dreamcast community for the fun times over the years. I've introduced Dreamcast to the children in our family and they enjoy Sonic Adventure, Wacky Races, Tennis 2K2, Rayman 2.... A few months ago I actually filmed them unboxing my sealed Sonic Adventure 2 10th Anniversary tha...

Re: 5k Rotating Cube Demo
Interesting topic. I have great respect for the pioneers of DC homebrew. KOS is certainly an amazing achievement and a credit to Dreamcast's legacy in spite of any rough edges it might possess. I certainly learned a lot from it and anyone who sees mistakes should take it as an opportunity to learn/p...

Re: 5k Rotating Cube Demo
I just felt the urge to chime in on the whole reverse engineering concept. Personally, I think the act itself generally goes against the wishes of a developer/manufacturer who did not publicly describe or document their product and is therefore wrong regardless of how one goes about it. The only val...

I'm glad you came into my life. I still enjoy gaming with you. May you have many more years of fun and homebrew development. You're place in gaming history is legendary.

What is a shader? technically speaking...
Considering that the OP is inquiring about shaders at the most basic level, perhaps it would be useful to consider the question at a fundamental level? I have little more than a basic theoretical understanding of shaders but from what I know, the actual shader language used in the high level APIs (O...

Re: Replacing the Internal Battery with a AAA Holder
I soldered a li-2032 battery holder from an old PC motherboard and got a bunch of lir-2032s (recharageable l-2032) from ebay and it worked out quite nicely. I can easily replace a dead battery now.

Re: What's your specs?
The radeon 4850 is a good enough card even today. The ~5 or so games that would suffer with 4x anti-aliasing at 1080p barely seem to maintain a 10-15fps advantage on newer cards in the $150 price range (6850 etc according to most reviews online).

Re: KOS In Unix systems
Hi, Bluecrab. I was just wondering about the dc-chain script failing due to missing dependencies during the configure phase. Would it be better to configure all the tools first and report the missing dependencies? I've rebuilt the toolchain a couple of times after reinstalling linux and found myself...

Re: LibS3MPlay v.1.0
I think expectations for the dreamcast audio subsystem are sometimes too high just because it is programmable. There are many systems e.g. the Gameboy Advance which are built on cache-less CPUs. Remember that the sound subsystem (AICA) by itself is intended to be like a dedicated sound card (not a c...

Re: Help this spanish guy working on the bennu port to dreacmast
I also doubt the problem is with kos because the fs stuff usually works or blows up at build time. The romdisk seems to be building because the compile completes without missing the "extern romdisk" and you've mentioned taking up space so... maybe... - case-sensitivity? - not using "/...

Re: Help this spanish guy working on the bennu port to dreacmast
Should it be fs_open/fs_close? (A lazy guess) To emulate a CD you need to make an iso or cdi image of your game/program's directory and instead of "/rd" use "/cd" in the fopen/fs_open function. I have not used the emulators so I do not know if you need to create your IP.BIN and 1...

Re: Drawing rgb565 image in output_buffer using PVR
^^^ wow! I'm amazed the image above loaded with vq still looks like the original from afar or through squinted eyes. It's like a visual confirmation of the compression level of the format! (eg distance from screen required to correctly form the original=compression?) Fascinating!
